The Exorcist franchise is back with October’s The Exorcist: Believer, and the first trailer features double the possessions. Universal Pictures has released the first official trailer for the upcoming horror legacy sequel, and you can see it below. The trailer focuses on star Leslie Odom Jr. as his daughter and her friend end up getting lost in the woods for days, and when they come out they begin showing signs that something very wrong has happened. Odom finds himself referred to an old hat when it comes to possession in Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), who agrees to come in and tells one of the demons possessing the children, “We’ve met before.”
The film is directed by David Gordon Green from a script he co-wrote with Peter Sattler. It stars Leslie Odom, Jr., Ann Dowd, Jennifer Nettles, Norbert Leo Butz, Lidya Jewett, Olivia Marcum and Ellen Burstyn and releases on October 13th. The synopsis reads:
Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom, Jr.) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett) on his own.
But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn).
