Deadline reports that Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the writers of the 2018 horror hit A Quiet Place, are set to adapt Stephen King’s short story The Boogeyman for 20th Century Fox. The two screenwriters will also executive produce with Madhouse Entertainment’s Robyn Meisinger, Adam Kolbrenner and Ryan Cunningham. JR Young, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps will produce.

The story was first published in 1973 and later included in his 1978 book Night Shift. It follows a man who lost all of his children due to a possible monster hiding in the closet, as he recounts to his psychiatrist. It has been adapted numerous times into short films, but not a feature film. King has a deal for his properties called “Dollar baby deals”, which gives non-commercial and non-exclusive rights options to filmmakers to create short films of his work.

King is likely a fan of this news, as he said A Quiet Place was “an extraordinary piece of work.”
