Vivica A. Fox to Star in Night of the Living Dead Remake
Another new take on Night of the Living Dead is on the way, with Vivica A. Fox set to star. Bloody Disgusting reports that Fox (Kill Bill, Independence Day) is set to star in the fifth remake of the iconic 1968 George A. Romero classic, which essentially launched the modern pop culture concept of what a zombie is.
According to the site, Fox will be playing the lead role in the film. The original starred Duane Jones as the lead role of Ben. BD suggests (but does not make explicit) that it will be a version of Jones’ character.
The original film became a hit and spawned a whole zombie genre of filmmaking, not to mention other media that took from Romero’s concept of zombies as opposed to the traditional zombie depicted in Haitian folklore. It was first remade by Tom Savini in 1990 starring Patricia Tallman and Tony Todd, then was remade in 3D and released in 2006 with Jeff Broadstreet directing. The third remake was a 3D animated version titled Night of the Living Dead: Darkest Dawn, in which Tony Todd played Ben again, while Danielle Harris played Barbra. The most recent was in 2011, titled Mimesis: Night of the Living Dead and sees a group of horror film fans end up stuck in a “real-life” version of the original.
The latest remake is in early development and will shoot next year. It is described as follows:
“Amidst a worldwide event where the dead awake and roam the earth as zombies, a small group of human survivors struggle to stay alive and fight off the wandering zombies who are intent on eating them and turning them into the Walking Dead.”
