Warner Bros. Pictures Hoping To Get Christopher Nolan Back

Christopher Nolan parted ways with Warner Bros. following Tenet’s release, but the studio’s bosses are hopeful to get him back. Nolan parted ways with Warner Bros., who distributed all of his films since 2002’s Insomnia, in 2020 due to his issues with the studio’s day-and-date release strategy during the 2020 and 2021. Universal is distributing his new film Oppenheimer, which opens next month, but Warner Bros. co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy told Variety that they would like to get him back on board.
“We’re hoping to get Nolan back,” De Luca told the outlet. “I think there’s a world [in which it happens].”
The report notes that two sources familiar with Nolan said that he received a “seven-figure” check for Tenet within the last eight months and that it was a situation where Abdy, De Luca, and Warner Bros. Discovery head David Zaslav agreed that Nolan was owed the bonus in good faith. There were no strings attacked to the check, though the studio was in part trying to repair their relationship with Nolan. It was also noted that Nolan has done post-production work on Oppenheimer on the Warners lot.
