William Shatner would be happy to reprise his role of Captain Kirk in a Star Trek film if the opportunity makes sense. Shatner, who has not played the role since Kirk’s death in the 1994 film Generations, spoke with Metro UK and was asked if he would be interested in reprising the role.

“If they wrote it and it made reasonable sense then I’d love to,” Shatner said. “I wouldn’t do a series. If the role was written properly and it wasn’t a cameo or gratuitous; being there just to show my face, I wouldn’t do that.”

Shatner added that he has yet to watch any of the recent Star Trek TV shows, saying, “Patrick Stewart is a great friend of mine, but I haven’t seen Star Trek: Picard. I haven’t watched any Star Trek. I just don’t like watching myself on television.”

Both Picard and two seasons of Discovery are available on CBS All Access. A new TV series, Strange New Worlds, showcasing the crew of Christopher Pike, Number One, and Spock (Ethan Peck) aboard the original Enterprise before James T. Kirk became the captain is currently in the works.
