411’s WWF Sunday Night Heat Report 01.27.02

January 27, 2002 | Posted by Carlos Mahuad

Live, from New York… It’s Sunday Night Heat!

The show starts out in the best way possible with arrival of Stacey Keibler at WWF NY. Our hosts are Michael Cole and Tazz. Cole tells us that Stacey will be dancing for us tonight.

Match #1- The Godfather vs. Lance Storm

The hos do not look very ho-like tonight. This match is a continuation of the confrontation these two had at Raw. Nice little angle set up on Raw, then they blow it off here. Can’t complain about that. Storm attacks from behind but soon falls prey to a big boot. The GF nails him with an elbow then chokes him on the ropes. Irish whip to the corner, but Storm avoids the Escort Train. They head outside where GF eats some ALUMINUM steps. Back in, Lance hits a clothesline off the top. He charges to the corner but eats post, then takes the Escort Train. Godfather picks him up with a gutwrench, then just drops him back-first onto his knee.

Winner- The Godfather

Let’s talk a little football during the commercial break. Hey, what have I been saying? One good team, and a bunch of mediocre ones. The Steelers are better than the way they played today though. The Pats are not quite as good. Then again, I have been betting against the Patriots (literally) for weeks, and they’ve proven me wrong every time.

Match #2- Val Venis vs.

Venis gets the microphone. Man, this schtick got old quick. He gets a woman from the audience to take of his towel for him. He picks a nice looking girl that does it and they make out in the ring afterwards. What the hell??? No match, Venis just leaves. What a gyp.

Winner- No match

You know, the things that pass off as entertainment nowadays just amaze me. They hype tomorrow night’s Chris Jericho vs. Maven match. We then cut to Stacey dancing on the marquee outside of WWF NY.

Match #3- Billy and Chuck vs. Funaki and Crash

Crash and Billy start out. They lock up and Crash gets thrown across the ring. He tries to lock Billy up from behind, but does not have much luck with the much bigger Palumbo. Cole starts talking about the N.W.O. at this point. Let me tell you something, when the announcers are talking about it weeks before it happens, it’s not the New World Order. Funaki and Billy go at it and Funaki gets pancaked. Billy comes in and lays the stomps down on Funaki in the corner. Billy tags back in and he gets a pair of two counts off a punch. Chuck comes back in and he hits a belly to belly overhead suplex for two. Funaki comes back with a tornado ddt allowing him to make the lukewarm tag. Crash actually handles both of the AGD members for a while until Billy hits the famouser out of nowhere.

Winners- Chuck and Billy

Recap of Vince McMahon going nuts at Raw, then talking to himself on Smackdown. The WWF seems to prefer hyping things instead of actually making them exciting. And this entire setup goes completely against what the N.W.O. stands for. Backstage Stacey rubs her belly.

Match #4- Christian vs. Diamond Dallas Page

Christian has a pretty good DDP impression. They trade punches in the corner. DDP hits a clothesline and a sidewalk slam for two. Christian is clotheslined over the top to the outside and they go at it out there. Can you believe DDP used to be WCW Champ? Now he can’t even main event the company’s third show. Christian with the upper hand for a while and he wrestles heel. He hooks the abdominal stretch then hits an inverted ddt backbreaker. It only gets two so Christian makes a temper tantrum in the middle of the ring. Christian punches in the corner, but Page gets out of it with a clothesline. DDP misses a discuss punch and takes an inverted ddt for two. Christian pushes out of the Diamond Cutter but Page hits the ropes and…. BANG.

Winner- Diamond Dallas Page

The show wraps up with Stacey doing a little dance on the WWF NY stage. She lets her hair down and shakes around a bit. That was certainly worth an hour of hype. OK, I’m done. See you next week.
