Adam Copeland says he’s happy that he and Christian Cage aren’t just playing the hits in their re-teaming in AEW. Copeland and Cage have been teaming together, reuniting their legendary tag team in the most recent stage in their AEW run. The duo are set to face FTR for the World Tag Team Championships at AEW Double Or Nothing in what will be their last match as a team if they lose.
Copeland and Cage are exploring a different dynamic then their famed run together as a team this time around, something Copeland reflected on in an interview with Sportsocracy. He noted that he is happy that they’re doing something fresh with their on-screen relationship. You can see highlights below:
On Cage Being First In Their AEW Tag Team Name:
“So well, here’s the thing. Because I’m comfortable in where I am, and he might not be… It was really fun. Just that we turned that into a storyline point. Like, he would refuse to team with me unless we did that, you know? Which is just fun. We’re getting to be Statler and Waldorf from the Muppets, you know. I mean, it really is so true to our actual relationship. Which is why it’s working because I think you watch and go, ‘Look at those two idiots. That’s how they interact, you know, in the airport or you’re sitting around watching a hockey game and it really is right.”
On Their Team Together:
“One thing we wanted to do in teaming again was to make it different. We didn’t want to just come back and do like the greatest hits thing and have painted-in black beards and trying to hold on to this thing, right? Because if we come out and start calling people ‘dorkchops,’ and ‘You reek of Heinosity’ and the stuff that we did in like the early 2000s — eh. We wanted to make sure that if we do this thing, we recreate this thing. And that has been really fun. That has kept it interesting and kept it creatively intriguing, because we are. We’re doing a different version of what it is that him and I are. And it hasn’t been seen before and it makes sure that we don’t just kind of go out there as the two old guys trying to hang on to something that we were. We’re doing something different and that, I really really enjoy.”
