On a recent episode of her podcast, “What’s Your Story? With Stephanie McMahon,”  AJ Styles discussed his WWE retirement match against Gunther at the WWE Royal Rumble, putting his gloves back on after the match, and why he did that.

Gunther defeated Styles at the PLE and after the match, he teased taking his gloves off but then put them back on. While that moment sparked widespread speculation among WWE fans regarding his future in the ring, he claims he didn’t know why he did it. Here are the highlights:

On Why He Put the Gloves Back On After the Match:

“I don’t know… Never say never, right? That’s the saying. I think everybody’s allowed at least once come out of retirement. You know? I’m not saying that I’ll do it anytime soon. I’m just saying.”

On What If He Wants to Team With His Kids:

“Well I mean, what if my son wrestles? The opportunity to tag with him once? You never know. So there’ll be a time there’ll be a time where the gloves will never go back on, and it may be now. But we’ll see.”

On If His Children Are Interested in Wrestling:

“My second oldest is — I’m working with him now, so he’s in it. And then my daughter, I’ve caught her many a times watching it. And to the point where I was like, ‘Baby, please turn that off. I just came from work.’ So I think they all got a little bit of it. I think once my second oldest takes off, my oldest will probably end up going that way too. And then who knows if my daughter [does].”
