AJ Styles says that he is enjoying his role as a coach in WWE and is looking forward to what’s next for him. The WWE Hall of Famer has been working as a coach and talent scout for the company since he retired from the ring. He’s even worked as a producer for a match in WWE EVOLVE, though he’s said that isn’t necessarily his thing.
Styles was asked on his Phenomenally Retro podcast about what his work has been like as of late. He noted that he is really enjoying helping talent at the WWE Performance Center and that while he doesn’t know what his next steps are in the role, he’s looking forward to it. You can see the highlights below:
On His Work at the PC:
“I’m just filling in. Whatever they need, I want to be the guy. I like to be needed, and needed is a good thing. And the fact that I get to go down there and enjoy myself, because I still have passion for wrestling and showing these things. So hopefully that passion that will bleed over to the Performance Center.
“Because like, I hope they’re excited about learning, because it’s fun. This is like the best thing — like, you’re going to have the best job in the world if you just freaking have a passion for it. Like, it’s going to be fun, you’re going to enjoy every minute of it. I — listen when I was getting trained, I love training. So I hope they feel the same way.”
On How He’s Feeling Post-Retirement:
“I’m excited about the next steps. Because I don’t know exactly what they are, but being a part of the WWE ID and the coaching, and being able to go to the Performance Center and working with talent. Going over stuff like — you know, there’s a time where we have open ring, and we can just work on whatever we want to work on. That’s fun.
“Because it’s like, ‘Hey, man. I got all this information up here in this brain. I gotta get it out of there. Let me let me show you this.’ Because I know a lot of the moves that aren’t done anymore that other guys used to do really well. And like, ‘Hey, you know, we should do this one. You should try this. Let’s put your own little spin on it.’ You know, little things like that are fun to me.”
