WWE is set to present the 41st edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event from the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, tonight.
Ahead of the television special, Fightful Select has provided some backstage news and the potential match order.
According to the website, the creative for SNME XL1 was heavily adjusted at the last minute, claiming Jey Uso was not originally planned to feature at the TV special.
Fightful further reports that CM Punk vs. Jey Uso for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship is set to headline the show.
Reported match order for SNME:
* Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
* Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship.
* Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Penta vs. Rusev in a Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Title
* CM Punk vs. Jey Uso for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship
Fightful also cited a source within the company who claimed that WWE is “very disappointed” with the ticket sales last night, indicating a drop of less than half of the average for the calendar year. Apparently many fans have been moved down.
The site further reports that while Triple H and Bruce Prichard were present at last night’s SmackDown, they aren’t present for tonight’s TV special. It further reported that Road Dogg was present last night at. SmackDown after being absent for the past two weeks.
Meanwhile, Bianca Belair was reportedly in Salt Lake City yesterday, but there is no update on whether she was backstage last night.
Furthermore, WWE reportedly intends to reunite Pretty Deadly once Elton Prince recovers from his injury.
The report also debunked the rumors around Cody Rhodes’ potential heel turn, clarifying that this hasn’t been reported.
However, it did confirm that there have been discussions regarding John Cena challenging for the Intercontinental Title in recent months.
