Backstage Update on Drew McIntyre’s WWE Contract Status After WrestleMania 40
– As previously reported, WWE announced live event for Bologna Italy scheduled for May 1. The graphic released for the event featured WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre. This raised some eyebrows since McIntyre’s current WWE contract is slated to expire following WrestleMania 40 in April, and he reportedly hadn’t signed a new deal yet. According to a report by PWInsider Elite (via WrestlingInc.com), while McIntyre appears in the promotional graphic for the Italy event, he still hasn’t signed a new contract with the promotion.
PWInsider also notes that while McIntyre hasn’t re-signed with the company yet, WWE is reportedly working under the idea that he will, which explains why McIntyre is appearing in advertising materials for the upcoming European tour. Additionally, it’s reported that both WWE and McIntyre are hoping to complete a new deal soon, but a new contract hasn’t been finalized for McIntyre. There’s also still a chance that ongoing talks could break down at some point.
McIntyre is currently scheduled to compete in the men’s Elimination Chamber match at Elimination Chamber: Perth later this month. Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley, and LA Knight are also scheduled to compete in the matchup. The winner will earn a title shot against World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40.
WWE Elimination Chamber: Perth will be held on Saturday, February 24 in Perth, Australia at Optus Stadium. It will be broadcast live on Peacock.
