Backstage Update on Rumored Plan for Melina in NXT, What Put Off Her NXT Debut
– As previously reported, Jonny Fairplay claimed in an interview with Wade Keller that there was a plan to have Melina return to WWE by way of NXT, and she would be managed by Robert Stone. However, an injury supposedly detailed this plan. According to a report by PWInsider, this was the original plan for Melina’s return back in September when it was reported she was coming back to WWE.
WWE’s plan was to reportedly have Stone manage Melina on NXT, rather than having her return on Raw or SmackDown. After Mercedes Martinez left Robert Stone, Stone said he would go after “bigger stars,” which was reportedly in reference to Melina. Melina then came into Orlando for NXT TV, but there was a bad COVID-19 outbreak in NXT at the time, resulting in her debut not happing.
WWE reportedly wanted for Melina to work with younger NXT talents and help them learn how to showcase themselves better as Superstars.
When news first surfaced of a rumored WWE return for the former Diva and Women’s champion earlier this year, she denied the rumors.
