New details have emerged related to the botched finish to the Women’s North American Championship match between Blake Monroe and Thea Hail on the December 17 episode of NXT.

As reported earlier, the title change was not planned, and it happened due to Thea Hail not giving Blake Monroe enough time to recover after hitting her signature backwards drop. The spot reportedly knocked the wind out of Blake, and she wasn’t able to kick out before the three-count.

Following this, Fightful Select reported that match official Felix Fernandez received praise backstage for the way he handled the situation. However, other sources close to the matter later alleged that there was heat on Fernandez for not checking on Blake Monroe before going for the pinfall.

Fightful Select is now reporting that Blake later claimed that she got injured after that spot and that she and the people involved with her creative were specifically not happy with how things unfolded, adding that the decision was quickly made to have a rematch between the two. However, the report didn’t confirm the severity of the injury.

The report further states that Shawn Michaels, Matt Bloom, and other referees later talked to Felix Fernandez and told him that he handled things the right way.

On this week’s NXT, a disconsolate Blake Monroe confronted Thea Hail and demanded a rematch, which is now set for New Year’s Evil on January 6.
