Darby Allin will be adding marathon participation to his resume, as he’s set to run in the New York City in November. The former AEW World Champion spoke with Jon Alba for Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown ahead of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, and during the interview he noted that he will run in the famed marathon on November 1st.
Allin noted that this is his first-ever marathon, adding another accomplishment to his famed stunts and Mt. Everest climb. He will be running in support of KultureCity, the nonprofit AEW has been partnered with for years that provides sensory-inclusive experiences for those with disabilities. He will be part of a group of 50 runners.
Allin, who will be part of the Team MJF vs. Team Briscoe cage match at Forbidden Door, says that he might just “wing it” in terms of his prep for the marathon.
“I don’t even have running shoes yet,” he noted. “I kind of want to just go into it fully blind. Everyone’s like, ‘you gotta know what you’re getting yourself into.’ I was like, I kinda wanna just wing it, and it sounds so fun. So I don’t know if I’ll actually train for it. Yeah. I kinda wanna just wing it and push myself.”
The New York City Marathon was established in 1970 and is among the largest marathons in the world. 200,000 people applied to run in 2025, with 59,135 finishing the marathon.
