Bret Hart has never held back his opinion about Triple H, and he recently recalled an incident where he argued against losing to The Game in Germany. Hart has had issues with the now-WWE CCO since his days of enmity with Shawn Michaels, and he recently spoke on an Inside the Ropes live show with Kenny McIntosh about how his match with Triple H on a March 1997 episode of Raw in the country was supposed to end with a Triple H win. You can see highlights below (per Fightful):

On his matches with Triple H: “I wrestled him a couple of times. He was always trying to beat me. We did Monday Night Raw in Germany, and he was part of the booking now. He was in the booking committee with Vince and Jerry Brisco and all these guys. I get to Germany, which is one of my biggest markets ever. There was never a star in Germany like I was.”

On convincing Vince McMahon to change the finish of the match: “I get in the dressing room and Triple H is beating me; 1, 2, 3, in the middle of the ring. They kind of cornered me in the dressing room. Triple H is staring at me. [Brisco speaking], ‘This is what you’re doing. Triple H is gonna go over.’ I listened to them and I was like, ‘I want to talk to Vince. I’m not doing anything until I talk to Vince.’ I never refused to lose to anybody, except for Shawn at Survivor Series. They put me in a room with Vince and I said, ‘Why would you beat me in Germany? It’s a country where I’m super over. Why would you beat me with a guy who is not over? Why would you beat me in the middle of the ring, and I’m wrestling Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13 a week from now? You’re going to beat me on Raw, pin me in the middle of the ring, and then you want me to wrestle Austin and do what?’

“Vince looked like somebody hit him with a sledgehammer. He goes, ‘You’re right. We have to change it.’ He realized they can’t beat me before I wrestled Steve. You could see Triple H turn white. He didn’t get to beat me. He had already mapped it out in his head that he was going to pin me and destroy me in Germany because he had the clout, which tells you what kind of piece of shit he was. I foiled him, temporarily. He was out to get me.”

THe match ended with Triple H winning, but by DQ.
