The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Bushiroad has released its annual fiscal year report for its sports business, which includes New Japan Pro Wrestling and STARDOM. Revenue from NJPW and STARDOM totaled $43 million, down from last year ($44.8 million). The profit was $1.2 million, also down from last year ($3 million).
While NJPW attendance didn’t drop over the last year, it did have lower gates and overall revenue. Both promotions lost stars in that time, with NJPW wrestlers going to AEW and STARDOM wrestlers going to Marigold. The numbers went back up from April to June, including a STARDOM attendance record at Yokohama Arena of 7,503 for Saya Kamitani and Tam Nakano.
Business analysts for Bushiroad claim that the younger wrestlers are “growing,” and it’s likely that next year there will be bigger young stars. There is hope that things will improve next year. It is likely Wrestle Kingdom will have a large attendance for the retirement of Hiroshi Tanahashi and the debut of Aaron Wolf. It’s also believed that attendance and revenue will increase for STARDOM in the next year.
