Chase Owens defeated Juice Robinson @ 24:40 via pin [***½] This was a very good match, with Owens scoring a big upset and also making claim to a US Title shot.

Yuji Nagata vs. Tomohiro Ishii: They lock up, battling for position, and to the ropes. Nagata slaps Ishii; they trade and just unload until Ishii takes him down. The brain buster follows for another 2. They trade; German by Ishii, but Nagata pops up and hits an XPLODER. LARIAT by Ishii and both are down. The big lariat follows for 2. Nagata counters the brain buster and hits a Saito suplex for 2. Nagata hits a German, hits the kick and covers for 2 again. They trade slaps again, Nagata drops the kneepad, but runs into a lariat, but he kicks out at 1. Enziguri by Ishii, hits the sliding D and that gets 2. The brain buster follows and Nagata is finally done. Tomohiro Ishii defeated Yuji Nagata @ 21:40 via pin [****¼] This was an absolutely great main event match, delivering exactly what I hoped and wanted from it. Ishii always delivered, and Nagata turned back the hands of time once again, and showed that he can still bring it. This was a beautifully violent and hard hitting match, with the veteran proving why he’s still so respected, while Ishii moves on and scores an important win, but Nagata still leads the series 7-4. This was easily the best thing on night one.

– Round two will see:

* Ishii vs. Taichi
* Owens vs. YOSHI-HASHI

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

The 411
Night one of the 2019 NJ Cup wasn’t a blow away show by any means, but the final two matches were worth the watch, especially the main event.
