– The third episode of the new Netflix docuseries, Mr. McMahon, documents the Monday Night Wars between WWE (then WWF) and the now-defunct WCW. Vince McMahon felt like he was being targeted and attacked by Ted Turner’s billionaire media empire, and he reacted by airing the infamous “Billionaire Ted” skits. However, the docuseries revealed that former WCW President Eric Bischoff showed the skits to Turner, who got a kick out of them.
Eric Bischoff said on the infamous skits (via Fightful), “I kept gnawing at [Vince] and hitting him and doing everything I could to get him to react, and he did. They started doing the Billionaire Ted skits. That was the first real sell.” He added about showing the skits to Turner, “I finally got him to react, which means he was off balance. When I first saw them, it’s like, ‘Let’s tape these things. I gotta run them up to Ted.’ We brought them up to Ted and he laughed his ass off. He thought they were funny as hell.”
Eventually, Kay Koplovitz put a stop to the skits and asked for WWE to stop doing them. The docuseries also reveals footage of Turner laughing at seeing the skit’s parody of Hulk Hogan, “The Huckster.”
Mr. McMahon is streaming now on Netflix. You can check out Robert Leighty Jr.’s report on episode three RIGHT HERE.
