Ethan Page Shares Story of How MJF Met Cody Rhodes, Reveals It Happened Over MJF Hitting on His Sister

During a recent interview with Insight with Chris Van Vliet, WWE Superstar Ethan Page shared his version of an earlier story that led to former AEW rivals Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) and Cody Rhodes meeting for the first time. MJF had previously claimed that his first time meeting Cody Rhodes happened as a result of MJF hitting on his sister and being confronted by Rhodes at an indie event.

Van Vliet asked Page to share his version of the event, and Page confirmed that MJF’s story is true. He explained, “So, my version, first of all, that is a true story. From my perspective, that is a true story. He [Cody] did come to me and tell me that MJF was talking about my sister, and my family is very touchy thing for me. It’s my hard, fast rule is you could do whatever you want, say whatever you want, get away with whatever you want; don’t mention my family, don’t talk about my family, don’t mess with my family.”

Page continued, “So all of a sudden, at the time, MJF is like the young wrestler, up-and-coming wrestler, like he literally just met Cody that day. So this is kind of like the start of him getting going, so I hear this guy’s talking about my sister. I confronted him, and we were friends at the time, and I just couldn’t believe it, and he was very defensive, which I understand why he would be, and yeah, he did. He confronted Cody about it.”

Cody Rhodes and MJF meeting for the first time forged what became a longtime friendship, with the two wrestlers’ comedic antics being featured on Being The Elite. Cody Rhodes would eventually go on to become one of the founders of AEW, with MJF joining the promotion at its start. Rhodes and MJF then sparked an epic on-air rivalry in AEW.
