Jacob Fatu had to take time off due to dental surgery late last year, and he says that the experience was a wake-up call for his health. The WWE star was written off TV due to needing to have dental surgery done, which led to 11 teeth being pulled.

Fatu reflected on the matter in his interview on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast. He credited his wife for making him go to get it looked at and said that while he missed out on some opportunities, it was something he had to do so he could take care of his health. You can see highlights below:

On Taking the Time Off:

“You know what? I ain’t going to sugarcoat anything. I had to slow down. I’m just — I’m glad they caught it. Shout out to my wife for actually having me — I needed to go get it looked at. It would have affected my heart, it would have affected my brain. You know, I never got no teeth pulled out. So that’s why it was major… I feel like I missed out on opportunities, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter because my health is everything. I can’t take care of my family if I’m being stubborn about this.

“So if anybody’s watching this man, just make sure y’all go take care of that. Check it out. I didn’t know. I was green. I didn’t know about none of this. But when they looked at it, yeah it was bad. I got 11 teeth pulled out. I mean, they’re all in the back. This is my real teeth right here [in front]. I got all my s**t in the back, but it was all through the back. It was all from me being younger, smoking Newports, all stuff when I never took care of it.”

On Being Focused On Taking Care Of His Health Now:

“It opened up my mind like bro, now I’m starting to think about my health. Now I’m starting to think about, ‘Okay, I’m young now. I do this now but if I don’t take care of this and really tap in with my health side, then my kids are going to lose me. And so it really opened up my eyes on that. On how to, health-wise, taking care of my body, doing this, doing that. Just taking it easy, because you know I’m not young no more. So it is different.”
