Matt Hardy Reveals The New Day Reached Out to The Hardys for Potential Match During Their NXT Stint

TNA star Matt Hardy recently revealed that The New Day reached out to him and Jeff when they were NXT Tag Team Champions last year.

The Hardys had a brief run with the NXT Tag Team Championship last year. The duo won the belts from DarkState at NXT vs. TNA Showdown last October and dropped them back to them later that month at Halloween Havoc.

The Hardy Boyz made an appearance on the Battleground Podcast this week. During the conversation, Matt and Jeff commented on the prospect of facing The New Day in TNA. Matt Hardy then revealed that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods actually reached out to him and Jeff to set up a potential match and a brief program on WWE TV.

“I’m not gonna lie; whenever we started going back and forth with WWE and worked some NXT and were NXT Tag Team Champions for a little while, The New Day had reached out and asked us about having a match on WWE programming and do a little program with them. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite work out,” Matt said.

The New Day exited WWE in early May 2026 after the duo was reportedly offered a restructured deal by WWE’s parent company, TKO. There is currently no update on their future landing spot.
