Jim Duggan Reflects On Cancer Battle, Compares Dusty & Cody Rhodes
Jim Duggan has had a couple of battles with cancer in recent years, and he weighed in on the matter in a new interview. The WWE Hall of Famer dealt with prostate cancer a few years back, and he spoke with Bill Apter about the battle and more.
Speaking with Apter from ISPW fan convention, Duggan talked about the importance of early detection. He also compared facing Dusty Rhodes and Cody Rhodes in the ring, having battled both in WWE during different eras. You can see the highlights below:
On Working Against Both Dusty & Cody Rhodes:
“Well, Cody’s a great young athlete. Obviously, can do all kinds of things physically. Dusty was limited in his physical ability, but just his charisma carried him so far. That’s what I tell the young kids that are trying to break in. I said, ‘Everybody can take a backdrop. Everybody can work pretty well. It’s your character that stands out. Work more on your gimmick than you do your ring work.'”
On His Cancer Diagnosis:
“Yeah, I had some health issues. So get your checkups, folks. Because you know, I had cancer probably 25 years ago, kidney cancer. With the grace of God, I survived that. Now recently, I’m battling prostate cancer. So early detection, folks. Cancer is not a death sentence. You get it caught, get the treatment, save your life. So just a just a blood test will find prostate cancer.
