Hello there people, time for another episode of WWE Smackdown. Things have been a little on the downswing the last few weeks as we’re heading towards Clash in Paris. The tag team scene has been a bright spot and it looks like the team of Carmelo Hayes and Miz is gearing up for a run towards title contention against the Wyatt Sicks, they’ll be taking on the Motor City Machine Guns tonight to further that goal. John Cena will be on hand this week after doing all the press for Peacemaker season 2 last week, so good guy Cena will say his final farewell to Dublin and there’s a decent chance that Logan Paul will show up to complicate things. Drew McIntyre further confirmed that he’s coming after Cody Rhodes for Cody’s WWE title so one imagines that those two will square up again tonight. Aleister Black got after Ron Killings last week, Black is one of the few wrestlers freely acknowledging the difference between R-Truth and Ron Killings and he’s happy to take on Killings again here but Damian Priest still looms over everything Black is doing since those two are still the primary program. Charlotte Flair will take on Piper Niven to further the tag team program that’s Flair and Alexa Bliss taking on some version of Chelsea Green and the Secret Hervice of Piper and Alba Fyre. Sami Zayn is still taking aim at Solo Sikoa’s US title, Solo’s goobers are complicating things though so Sami is mostly allied with Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu to try and equalize things. Given that the rumor mill has been buzzing about Solo and company taking on the Wyatt Sicks in some form, and given that those are the only two Smackdown groups of their respective sizes, we should keep an eye out for more of those seeds being planted. Tiffany Stratton still needs a new title challenger but seems stuck with some version of Nia Jax or Jade Cargill while Giulia looks like she’ll be busy with Michin for a little bit. Randy Orton needs a new program, and it’d be nice to see Shinsuke Nakamura doing things at some point. Clash in Paris is coming up next Sunday so let’s hope things are going to start looking up for the blue brand as we head into the PPV.
We see a few wrestlers arrive at the venue, and we’re reminded the Street Profits will take on JC Mateo and Botcha Loa. The Dublin crowd is quite raucous right off the bat, though this did take place several hours ago and I imagine you can find spoilers if you’re so inclined.
Becky Lynch comes out to start the show, because Ireland. She enjoys the loud crowd reaction for a bit before getting a mic. Eventually she plays with the crowd a bit about this being the first televised WWE event from Dublin. That gets a “we deserve it” chant. She talks about being a fan and coming here for house shows, she’s always wanted TV to come here and she can finally say the crowd doesn’t deserve it. No one here deserves to be on TV, she petitioned to get the show moved but couldn’t get any movement. The crowd want Lyra Valkyria but Becky says Lyra will never get a shot at her title. Some more cheap heat follows. She’s been let down by everyone here, and as the greatest female wrestler of all time she has achieved the impossible. As she’s listing her accomplishments she includes having an American husband. She should have had a parade, or a mural, or a statue, but instead she came home and only saw rugby players or Katie Taylor. Barry Keoghan plays the same oddball and everyone loses their minds. Tiffany Stratton interrupts this overlong tirade and gets a mic. Becky is disgusted by the fans reaction. Tiffany feels Becky is being ungrateful, and reminds her she’s on the wrong show. She invites Rebecca to leave, or Tiffany will make her leave. That brings out Nia Jax for some reason. Jax has a mic and talks her way to the ring, reminding Tiffany that she exists. Jax then knocks Tiffany down and invites Becky to join in stomping her down. Jade Cargill makes the save and pump kicks Jax out of the ring. Becky and Jade stare down and circle, Tiffany dropkicks Jax off the apron and Becky powders. Nick Aldis shows up to make the obvious tag team match, which will serve as our main event tonight. OK then.
In the back Carmelo Hayes walks and finds Fraxiom. Axiom and Frazer say Hayes earned some respect last week, then sow dissent between Hayes and Miz. Miz comes over and blusters, but Hayes has his back verbally and talks about how old Miz is and how much experience he has. We can see the Wyatt’s lurking in the background.
Miz and Hayes head to the ring and we head to break.
After the break out come the Machine Guns.
Match #1 – Tag Team Match: Miz and Carmelo Hayes vs. Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin)
Miz and Hayes bicker about who starts, eventually Hayes tags himself in. Sabin and Hayes with some wrestling, Hayes fakes a tag to Miz then backs Sabin into a corner. Sabin fights back with arm drags then they hit the ropes and Miz blind tags himself in then runs into a low dropkick. Miz grabs a headlock, Shelley tags in as does Hayes and the Guns send both men out of the ring. Double baseball slide then Shelley holds the ropes open for Sabin to hit a suicide dive and that sends us to break.
Miz tags in as we come back and jumps onto Shelley, Shelley kicks him off and tags in Sabin. Sabin gets a bit of shine including a jumping DDT for a 2 count. Shelley tags in and Miz takes some tandem offense including a Magic killer for a 2 count as Hayes breaks up the pin. Hayes gets a Facial for his trouble. Sabin tags back in as we get a bit of a TNA chant, they try Skull and Bones but Miz fights free then Hayes tags in blind and hits a La Mistica slam for a 2 count. Hayes heads up top, Miz tags in though and they wind up bickering. Sabin shoves Hayes into Miz, but Hayes hits a Codebreaker then Shelley and Hayes fight to the floor while Miz climbs over and covers Sabin to win.
OFFICIAL RESULT: Carmelo Hayes and Miz won in 8:18
Rating: 2.5 stars
Thoughts: Good little match, I still wish the Guns had something better to do but Hayes and Miz are getting over.
In the back Cathy talks with Jimmy Uso about Naomi being pregnant, Sami Zayn comes over to give love to Jimmy. Solo Siko and his My Favorite Toupee’s are here. Solo wants Jimmy to name the kid after him. Jimmy declines. Sami and Solo bicker now, and Sami warns Solo that this is WrestleMania main eventer Sami Zayn. Solo and goons leave after that.
After this break Charlotte Flair will take on Piper Niven. We haven’t seen Alexa Bliss yet, she wasn’t with Charlotte on arrival and isn’t listed as coming with her to the ring on the graphic.
We come back to Piper Niven already in the ring. Charlotte Flair heads to the ring by herself.
Match #2: Charlotte Flair vs. Piper Niven w/ Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre
They circle then tie up, Charlotte escapes an arm wringer then grabs a headlock but runs into a shoulder block from Piper. Charlotte back up but Piper slams her down by the hair. Boot from Charlotte then she heads up top and hits a crossbody for a 2 count. A few kicks from Charlotte then she heads up top, Green and Fyre complicate things though and that lets Piper fight back with a Black Hole Slam for a 2 count and we head to break.
We come back to Charlotte kicking out of a pin attempt. Piper tries a Vader Bomb but Charlotte rolls away then lays in chops. Step over clothesline from Charlotte then a couple of thrust kicks and a running boot. Charlotte goes up for the moonsult, it connects but only a 2 count. Piper avoids a Figure 8 but eats a Spear for a 2 count. Green distracts the ref but eats a punch from Charlotte. Figure 8 locked in but Fyre distracts the ref so Green can rake the eyes of Charlotte. Corner avalanche from Piper then a Michinoku Driver to win.
OFFICIAL RESULT: Piper Niven won in 8:33
Rating: 2 stars
Thoughts: Nice showing from Piper here, who has been the workhorse of the Green group for a while now. Charlotte struggling to win without Bliss remains a decent beat for her character, and will fuel her eventual heel turn on Bliss down the road.
In the back Kiana James talks with Giulia, Michin comes over and wants a title shot. Giulia seems agreeable, oh we see Nikki Cross in the background observing things. James tries to block Michin, but Michin is happy to run over James in the ring to get a shot. Giulia isn’t worried about Michin and heads off. After this break we’ll get Cena and Logan Paul talking at each other.
After the break here comes John Cena. Cena enjoys the crowd singing his song and basks in the reaction for bit before getting his special introduction. The crowd is vocal as Cena gets a mic, but before he can say anything here comes Logan Paul. Logan gets a mic and says it’s good to be back in England. He insults the Irish and makes a bit of a Conor McGregor reference. Next he says he’ll keep it real with Cena, which is weird since Cena is a professional pretender and at this point more an actor than wrestler. He winds up arguing with the crowd again. He says he’s been here for 4 years at this point and he’s the best this company has, and the idiots need to accept him and he’s exactly who he says he is while Cena is a corporate pawn who’ll do whatever the bosses want. Logan asks who the imposter in the ring is, the guy risking his live every PLE or the one doing the same five moves for 25 years? The guy who leaves the ring to act or the one who stays here to be himself. He can’t wait to share the ring with Paris but he wont sign a cohabitation agreement, this is his house now. Cena says Logan is an undeniable presence, a tremendous athlete, a future WWE champion, a future WrestleMania main eventer. He believes all those things, and boy they make him upset. And he knows why, and the fans know why too. There’s one term they’ve used for Logan, Dublin chooses wanker but Cena keeps hearing is that Logan is an outsider. Well we’ve got to change that, we’re kind of stuck with him. He’s not an outsider, he’s a disappointment. A disappointment because we were excited when he came here, we all opened our arms to him but all he does is bring crap like Prime in here for bad branding opportunities. Cena knocked over the display on that moment too to a big pop. On top of that Logan tries to brag about putting his life on the line for a grand total of 23 matches. That’s an amazing number, because Cena has given this business everything for 23 years. Not just TV or PPV, that’s non-televised house shows for the people who give a damn. He fought Sheamus here in 2010 to no cameras while Logan made Vine videos with his brother. Logan might have potential but that’s not enough. Whether Cena has 100 moves, 5 moves, or 1 move he always asks what he can give to this business. The crowd give Logan grief because they can see he’s slimy, they know Logan asks what he can take from this business. Cena’s got wisdom for Logan, it doesn’t matter how fast you are or how high you can jump, the people see through BS and know Logan is here for the wrong reasons. Logan isn’t an outsider, he’s a parasite. That gets a “parasite” chant. Cena says Logan is taking away time in Cena’s final moments from guys like Dom Mysterio, Seth Rollins, AJ Styles, or Jacob Fatu for these matches with Cena. Loud “AJ Styles” chant at that. The crowd want the legendary matches and think Cena’s wasting his time with Logan. Well Cena is a man of his word, Logan was first in line but at Paris Logan gets the most important match of his life. Logan knows about hustle, but nothing about loyalty or respect and if you want any kind of longevity in this business you know this is never your house, this is the fans world. And as far as cohabitation agreements, well Logan’s got enough legal trouble of his own. He warns Logan to bring his A game to Paris, because his opponent is the greatest of all time and Cena is not going to let Logan just waltz in here in Cena’s final moments in this business. At Clash in Paris Logan will learn to give of himself, or Cena will beat the shite out of him. Logan gets a little pushy, Cena then hoists him up and hits an Attitude Adjustment. Pretty good mic work from both men, Cena in particular laying out the stakes and boundaries of the conflict.
In the back Jade and Tiffany bicker, but Jade says they can work together tonight but she’s coming for the title after this.
The Street Profits head to the ring and we head to break.
Post break Logan walks in the back and finds Drew McIntyre. Drew says Logan is scared of Cena, the 17 time world champion and Super Cena. Well it’s not 2010 and that’s not Super Cena. Logan is in his prime and will have to make this right since Cena embarrassed him. Whatever it takes.
To the ring and the Profits are playing with the crowd while we wait for the goof troupe to arrive. They’re still using Solo’s music because of course they are.
Match #3 – Tag Team Match: Street Profits (Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins) w/ B-Fab vs. JC Mateo and Tonga Loa w/ Solo Sikoa and Tala Tonga
34 minutes between matches. Dawkins and Loa start, Loa lands a shoulder block but then Dawkins lands a dropkick. Ford tags in and Loa takes another dropkick then a standing moonsault. Loa tags out and Ford gets isolated in the heel corner. The crowd chant for Roman Reigns, which should tell you everything you need to know about how well Solo’s group has gotten over. Ford with kicks then a Fame-Asser. Mateo gets kicked then Ford kicks Loa as well. Loa pulls Ford out of the ring and rams him into the ring post and we head picture in picture.
Some more ringside work from Loa as he’s tagged in. They head into the ring, Mateo tags in and they double headbutt Ford. More heel work, including a Solo cheap shot. Loa keeps control with corner work then a back suplex. Mateo tags in and Ford takes more corner work. Mateo with a gutwrench suplex, impressive strength there. Ford starts fighting back as we rejoin the broadcast but Mateo drops him with a clothesline then hits his standing moonsault for 2. Mateo misses a corner attack and he tags Loa. Loa tries to block the tab but Ford flips out of a back suplex then has to sell Loa’s awful punches. Ford misdirects Loa out of the ring and crawls over to tag in Dawkins as Mateo tags back in. Flapjack to Loa. Dawkins gets Mateo on his shoulders but Mateo slips free and they slowly fight for position. Ford tags in and they hit the Revelation but Loa breaks up the pin. Dawkins and Loa fight on the floor while Mateo eats a jumping knee from Ford. Ford goes up top, Solo distracts the ref so Tala can shove Ford off the ropes. Mateo hits his swinging back suplex for a near fall. Jimmy Uso shows up with a chair and lays into Tala with it, but Tala kicks it away then starts brawling with Jimmy on the floor and through the crowd. Sami shows up and deals with Solo with a Helluva Kick. Loa chases Sami but Ford jumps onto him and Mateo. Mateo back in the ring takes a Sky High from Dawkins then Ford comes From the Heavens to pin and win.
OFFICIAL RESULT: Street Profits won in 9:56
Rating: 2.5 stars
Thoughts: Tonga Loa is still the thief of joy and Mateo has not found his footing in WWE. The Profits win and will take on Hayes and Miz next week, which is the right call as those two teams will have a good match to set up the winner going after the Wyatt’s.
We see Aleister Black warming up in the back and then head to break.
Post break Black is most of the way to the ring. We get a video from Truth, he’s got good and bad news. He wont be able to be there tonight as he flew to Dublin, Georgia no Dublin, Ireland. His back but he’s got a friend who will sub in for him against Black. Out comes Damian Priest. No match but they get right to brawling in the ring. Both men take turns with corner flurries then Priest throws Black out of the ring, rough landing there. Elbow from Black but Priest clobbers him with a right hand. Priest wants a Razor’s Edge through the table but officials show up. They keep brawling and fight all the way to the back.
We still have no kayfabe update on WWE champion Cody Rhodes after Drew kicked his head through the announce table. Drew shows up with a mic, big pop for Drew, and he asks for an update on Cody which he knows isn’t forthcoming. Well Drew’s got an update, Cody is a little bitch. Drew heads into the ring and says he did Cody a favor, he gave him more time with the title so hold it tight, take selfies with it, because you’re going to have to fight Drew for it and he’s pinned Cody clean before and he’ll take the title. He’s been here a couple of weeks and no one has had an issue with what Drew did to Cody, Cody has no friends left in WWE. That lines up Randy Orton from behind to hit an RKO. Randy stands tall and listens to the crowd sing his entrance song.
In the back Becky warms up and Nia Jax comes over. They bicker about being on a team, Becky says they’re still mortal enemies but she needs to win tonight. Jax says that sounds good and heads out and we head to break.
Next Friday we’ll get Sami vs. Solo for the US title and the Profits vs. Miz and Hayes for a title shot. Also next week Charlotte and Bliss defend their tag team belts against Piper and Fyre. That’ll be in Lyon, France.
To the ring, Jax is most of the way to the ring and here’s Becky to follow. Tiffany and Jade are already in the ring.
Match #4 – Tag Team Match: Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill vs. Becky Lynch and Nia Jax
Tiffany and Becky start, they circle then Becky with a cheap shot to Jade which just lets Tiffany hit her with a Finlay Roll. Jax has tagged in but Tiffany knocks her to the floor. Tiffany up top and jumps onto both Becky and Jax on the floor. Becky holds Tiffany to leg Jax hit a leg drop and the heels take over in the ring as we go picture in picture with about 5 minutes left in the episode.
Becky and Jax keep Tiffany isolated in their corner for a bit. Jax grabs a Cobra Clutch to kill some time. Tiffany counters a Samoan Drop with a Crucifix Bomb and we come back to broadcast. Becky and Jade both tag in, Jade unloads on Becky with strikes then hits a spinebuster. Jade catches a jumping Becky and hits the Fall Away Slam then a Stinger Splash in the corner. Another corner splash from Jade and a superkick. Torture Rack Bomb from Jade gets a 2 count. Becky tags out but Jade pump kicks Jax then menaces Becky who just runs away. Jax hits Jade with a senton as Becky is just gone. Jade with a powerbomb to Jax, Tiffany hits a Prettiest Moonsault Ever then Jade follows with a Frog Splash to win.
OFFICIAL RESULT: Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill won in 6:24
Rating: 2 stars
Thoughts: Odd match, very short and felt like it was designed to protect Jax by having her eat everything and the kitchen sink to take the L. I’m not sure she needs that much protection at this point. Becky being a chicken shit heel worked pretty well, and Jade still has a ton of offensive power but we need to see her really work a match well at some point.
In the back Cena gets told by Nick Aldis that Aldis heard from Brock Lesnar, but before anything can come of that Logan Paul shows up to punch out Cena and end the episode.
