UPDATEx2: PWInsider has more details on the spot that led to the injury to Kota Ibushi at tonight’s AEW Collision taping.

One fan who was seated in the second row gave their account of the incident, saying they had a clear view of the injury, which occurred on the opposite side of the ring. According to them, Josh Alexander and Ibushi were two were battling on the top rope and Alexander lifted Ibushi into a Fireman’s Carry position. While in that hold, both men appeared to slip and lost their balance, falling backwards off the ropes. The fan described it as a freak accident, with no one clearly at fault.

Ibushi reportedly landed first, taking an awkward and uncontrolled forward bump. Alexander followed, falling backwards over the ropes, hitting the apron, and landing on the floor. Of the two, Ibushi’s fall looked far rougher. The referee checked on both wrestlers, and Ibushi was seen leaning against the barricade on his knees, holding his upper right leg before rolling onto his side as AEW medical staff attended to him. He was eventually counted out, awarding the match to Alexander. After the match, Don Callis began cutting a promo, but was interrupted by Kenny Omega, who charged the ring with a trash can and cleared out both Alexander and Mark Davis.

UPDATE: PWInsider reports that while there hasn’t been an official announcement, it’s believed backstage that Kota Ibushi suffered a broken femur.
