Leighty’s WWE Main Event Review 10.17.24

-I have two Retro Reviews in the can with Great American Bash 90 and Saturday Night’s Main Event from July of 1990 dropping next. I am still debating if I want to add anything to this column, so for now we will just continue reviewing the two matches and skipping all the recap stuff. Let’s get to it!

-Announce Team: Blake Howard and Vic Joseph
-Taped: Enterprise Center, St Louis, MO

Tavion Heights vs. Brooks Jensen

-Back to NXT vs. NXT for this match and I still maintain having RAW vs. NXT works better on this show. Howard brings the knowledge as each man is 0-2 on Main Event in their careers. Someone is getting that first W. Heights use his amateur skills to start as he has back control and rolls Jensen around the ring. He gets a two count and then offers a handshake, but Jensen slaps him in the face. Heights trips Jensen to the mat and then ends up landing a slap of his own. Heights ducks a right hand, but can’t duck a back elbow to the face. Stun-gun from Jensen to take control. He throws some grounded punches and rakes the face. He drops Heights face first off a release suplex and then annoys the crowd by clapping at them. Jensen hooks a bear-hug, but Heights elbows out and gets a sunset flip for two. Backslide for two as well, but Jensen delivers a clothesline to end this rally. Jensen misses a clothesline and then a boot and that lets Heights hit a forearm. Overhead belly to belly toss and then a spinning belly to belly suplex finishes at 5:02.

Winner: Tavion Heights via pin at 5:02
-I honestly think this match would have been better on Level Up. The crowd didn’t buy into this much and it was just a match. Ending was anti-climatic as well and just not a fan. *1/2

The Street Profits (w/ B-Fab) vs. Los Garzas (w/ Elektra Lopez)

-I started covering this show in May of 2020 during the pandemic era and I saw a ton of matches involving these four so this is like a trip back in time. Angel was one of the highlights of this show during that time. Berto and Ford start and fly all over the place. Berto with a springboard crossbody for two, but Ford gets a dropkick. Tag to Dawkins and they double team Berto as they drop him on his face. That gets a two count. Dawkins fights out of the wrong corner and tags in Ford. He runs wild for a bit as they are starting this hot. Ford charges and gets caught with a knee by Garza on the apron. That sends us to a break at 2:12.

-60 seconds of Peacock commercials!

-Crown Jewel commercial! I haven’t watched the show yet, but caught various highlights and opinions on Twitter and reviews on this site.

-We are back at 4:14 with Angel getting a running kick. Los Garzas drop Ford on the top rope throat first and then a High Low for a two count. Berto hooks a chinlock as the crowd is into this time. Angel with a running knee strike. He gets a cocky cover for two. Garza is still awesome! Ford gets hung in the Tree of Woe and gets stomped down. More stomping as Los Garzas just walk all over Ford to many boos from the crowd. For fun they do stomp away again. Berto buries a knee in the back and yanks back on the arms. Ford screams a lot and forces a break. He counters a throw into a DDT and that leaves both men down as the race to the corner is on. HOT TAG to Dawkins and Angel gets the tag as well. Dawkins mows down Angel and face plants Berto. Jumping neckbreaker gets two! B-Fab and Lopez start brawling on the floor. Angel gets a roll-up off the distraction for two. Berto gets dumped on the floor as Ford make a blind tag. Double Team Sky High into a neckbreaker gets the pin and win at 9:00.

Winners: The Street Profits via pin at 9:00
-This was fun as I enjoy the work of all four men involved and the brawl between Lopez and Fab got the crowd rocking as well. Your mileage may vary, but I had fun even with a two minute break. ***

-Thanks for reading!

My rule is that if any match hits *** it automatically qualifies as a good show and I am not breaking my rule. The opener was kind of blah, but that's because I know they can do better than what they delivered here. The Tag Match featured four of my favorites and I found it enjoyable. All I need sometimes out of this show.
