Lucha Underground’s Catrina Joins Biopic Mapplethorpe

Deadline reports that Karlee Perez (Catrina in Lucha Underground, Maxine in WWE) has joined the cast of the independent biopic Mapplethrope. The film was written and directed by Ondi Timoner and production begins this month. Timoner will also produce through her Interloper Films company, with Eliza and Nate Dushki of Boston Diva Productions and Sirad Balducci.

It stars Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown) as photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. It follows Mapplethorpe’s life from his rise in the 1970s to his death in 1989 due to complications of HIV/AIDS. Perez will play Lisa Lyon, one of his “Muses” and the first World Women’s Bodybuilding champion.
