More Details On Brian Cage Almost Appearing At AEW Double or Nothing & Impact’s Reaction
We reported last week that Impact Wrestling champion Brian Cage almost appeared at AEW’s Double or Nothing PPV, but was contacted by Impact officials and told him that he wouldn’t be able to due to his contract. The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has more details on what the plans were for his appearance and why he was pulled from the show.
Cage was scheduled to appear in the Casino Battle Royale, where he would have been given “some spots to look good” before ultimately getting eliminated.
However, Cage has an exclusive contract with Impact and hadn’t cleared the appearance with them. AEW called Don Callis before the match, and he said that he didn’t think the Impact world champion should be in a pre-show battle royal, so he was pulled.
Impact wasn’t against Cage working a match at the event, and if the deal was made ahead of time, something could have been worked out that made sense to both sides, similar to AAA allowing the Young Bucks to use their tag titles for the event.
