WWE has moved NXT Stand & Deliver away from WrestleMania 42 weekend, announcing the show for April 4th in St. Louis. WWE officially announced on Wednesday that the NXT PLE will take place on April 4th from The Factory at The District in St. Louis, Missouri. Shawn Michaels made the initial announcement with a video posted to Twitter, followed by an official press release by WWE confirming the move.
Michaels said:
“Just an absolutely fantastic show last night [on NXT] where we crowned three new champions, and I want to break some big news. On Saturday, April 4th, NXT will be bringing one of its biggest PLEs to one of the greatest wrestling cities in all the world. Stand & Deliver, Saturday, April 4th, will take place at The Factory in St. Louis, Missouri. Tickets will go on sale on March 4th, with a pre-sale on March 3rd. And trust me, this is a PLE you won’t want to miss.”
The press release notes that Stand & Deliver “will feature high-stakes championship matches and showcase the brightest young talent in sports entertainment, including NXT Champion Joe Hendry, NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne, NXT North American Champion Myles Borne, NXT Women’s North American Champion Izzi Dame and others.”
The show will take place in the same city as the April 3rd episode of WWE SmackDown, which emanates from the Enterprise Center.
PWInsider reports that the move of Stand & Deliver away from WrestleMania, where it has previously taken place on an annual basis, took place for timing reasons. The outlet reports that the show was originally internally planned for Vegas during WrestleMania weekend, but that it was decided moving the show would give the NXT PLE a better chance of not being lost in the many other broadcasts and remove a show from the logistical challenges of a very busy weekend between Smackdown, the Hall of Fame ceremony, and both nights of WrestleMania.
WrestleMania’s West Coast airing the last few years was also a factor; the past couple of years have been an issue in the overall scheduling of the shows. Last year’s show famously caused issues when the WWE Hall of Fame ran late after SmackDown aired, leading to an early morning call time for talent with Stand & Deliver starting in the morning.
The move means that there will not be any NXT events broadcast during WrestleMania weekend. The report goes on to note that this is not necessarily a permanent move away from WrestleMania for Stand & Deliver, with the company evaluating and making a decision on a year-by-year basis.
Stand & Deliver stands on its own this year… and I couldn’t wait to tell you myself.
Our biggest night of the year. Saturday, April 4. Live from @thefactory_stl in St. Louis.
Presale begins March 3
