Royce Keys came down to play spoiler for Gunther’s getting a shot at Cody Rhodes during this week’s episode of WWE Smackdown, leading to a #1 contenders match being set. Friday night’s episode opened its second hour with Rhodes coming down to the ring in order to set up for Gunther to sign his contract to join the Smackdown roster and get a shot at Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash In Italy.

Gunther came down to the ring and spoke about how much planning and negotiation it took to get him to transfer to Smackdown, and said that it’s all about making it about yourself like an American. Gunther went off on Americans for a bit and said that he will take Rhodes’ title and just wants Rhodes to be a professional and say please in order to get his desire match and chance for revenge.

Rhodes said that Gunther didn’t sign last week and played along, asking Gunther to please come to the ring to sign the contract so he can get his ass kicked in Italy. Gunther played with Rhodes a bit, telling him to say “Please, Mr. Gunther.”

That brought out Keys, who said that if Gunther wasn’t willing to sign the contract he would. He got in the ring and asked for a pen, but Gunther stopped him from signing. Nick Aldis then came out and said that Gunther overplayed his hand, and now the title shot at Clash in Italy would be determined by a match between Gunther and Keys in the main event of tonight’s show.
