Sakura Hirota Stepping Away From Ring For Political Career

Pro Wrestling WAVE star Sakura Hirota says she’s pausing her in-ring career for a political run. Hirota announced on Monday that she has been appointed as the candidate for the Japan Innovation Party and will be running in the Aichi Prefecture electoral district for the House of Councillors election.

Hirota noted that she is voluntarily stepping back from Pro Wrestling Wave, writing:

“To all the fans who have always supported me and to all the Wave fans, I’m truly sorry for not being able to say a proper goodbye.

It was precisely because of Wave that I was able to balance raising my child and pursuing professional wrestling, which also led to advancing my wrestling career. My gratitude toward Wave remains unchanged, both now and in the future.

My involvement with professional wrestling will continue as a freelancer.

My ring name will remain the same, Shin Sakura Hirota.

However, for now, I will focus on political activities and the upcoming election campaign.”

Hirota is a former Wave Single Champion and two-time Wave Tag Team Champion.
