Second More Detailed WWE House Show Report – Fairbanks Alaska: 2.06.08
Thanks to 411 reader Andrew Sheeler for this report!
Here are the results for the February 6, 2008 Fairbanks, AK RAW house show:
– Tony Chimmel was our announcer for the evening. He welcomed the crowd and they played the instrumental Star Spangled Banner.
– William Regal came out dressed to wrestle. He taunted the crowd a bit and then ran through some of the evening’s matchups: William Regal vs Ric Flair in a Career Threatening Match, Mickie James vs Beth Phoenix for the Women’s Championship, Mr. Kennedy vs Jeff Hardy for the Intercontinental Championship, and in the main event we’d be seeing Randy Orton and Umaga team up against Chris Jericho. Regal told the crowd that Jericho’s partner, Triple H, had a family emergency but when Regal announced his replacement, the roof was blown off: John Cena!
– The first match of the evening was Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch vs Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly for the World Tag Team titles. The crowd was incredibly hot for this opening event. Rhodes and Holly were over big and Cade and Murdoch had a lot of heat. This was an excellent opener. Before the match, Murdoch wandered around outside the ring, threatening people, including me! In fact, he tried to climb over the barricade to get to me when Cade pulled him back. Murdoch is awesome! The match was pretty exciting; with a highlight being when Rhodes knocked one of Cade’s teeth out and it went flying. Hardcore Holly pinned Trevor Murdoch with an Alabama Slam for the win.
– The second match was Brian Kendrick vs Snitsky. Good God, Snitsky is even uglier in person! The crowd quieted down a lot for this match, most people didn’t even seem to know who Kendrick was. I felt pretty bad for the guy. Snitsky squashed Kendrick after Kendrick’s token offense, ending the match with a Pump Handle Slam.
– The next match was Val Venis vs Charlie Haas. The crowd was hot for Val and one lucky(?) lady got his towel. The two had a decent match. At one point Haas was knocked out of the ring. He then crawled beneath it and after a short while emerged again in a new singlet and the MASK! Lucha Haas! Haas begins to take control but Val rips off the mask and plants Haas, setting him up for the Money Shot. The hilarious part was the Venis wore the lucha mask while doing the Money Shot. He tried to give the mask to someone in the crowd but the ref took it away from him, getting a TON of heat.
– After that it was DH Smith vs Carlito. I was disappointed by the distinct lack of Santino. The crowd died down again for this match, with the exception of an entire section of the crowd that was cheering for Carlito. Nobody knew or cared about DH Smith. Carlito won with the Backstabber. Carlito was actually really over with the crowd.
– In the final match before the Intermission, we saw William Regal face off against the Nature Boy himself, Ric Flair. The crowd went nuts for Ric, it was actually quite deafening. Man does Ric look old…Still, it was great to see Naitch at least one last time before he retires. The two put on a solid but low risk match. Regal worked Flairs right knee quite a bit, but Naitch pulled out the Figure Four Leglock for the win, much to the crowd’s delight. The crowd was incredibly hot throughout the match.
– After Intermission, Candice Michelle came out to a pretty big pop. She said it was her first day back, shot some t-shirts into the crowd, and got a cheap pop for mentioning Fairbanks.
– Mickie James vs Beth Phoenix for the Women’s title was next. Mickie is freaking ridiculously hot. She posed quite a bit for the crowd and was extremely over. The two wrestled a fun little match, and Mickie got in two Mickiekanranas, before Phoenix put her away with a Fisherwoman’s Suplex. The crowd was into this match, although most of them just wanted to see Mickie and Beth take their clothes off.
– Next on the card was the Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy defending his title against Mr. Kennedy. Kennedy was out first. There was a lot of laughter when he tried to do the microphone grab, as there was no place for a microphone to come down from thanks to the scoreboard. Instead he forced Chimmel to hand him the mic from above. Kennedy told the crowd he hoped people got lots of pictures of Ric Flair because it was the last time they’d be seeing him. Out comes Hardy to a thunderous pop. Deafening. The two wrestled back and forth and reversed each other’s finishers several times, before Hardy hit the Swanton Bomb to win the match.
– The main event saw Randy Orton and Umaga vs Chris Jericho and John Cena. Umaga and Orton had a lot of heat on them as they came out. Umaga is huge! Jericho came out to a big pop, but it was nothing compared to Cena’s entrance. It was extremely hard to tell whether Jeff Hardy or John Cena got the louder pop. Orton was jawjacking with the crowd for a bit until the match began in earnest. At one point Cena tried for the F-U on Umaga but buckled under the weight. The finish saw Jericho nail Umaga with the Codebreaker while Cena hit Orton with the F-U for a 3-count. Jericho and Cena posed quite a bit for the crowd, took turns going around the ring shaking hands, and that was it.
