Latest Update on Attendance and Estimated PPV Buys for AEW Full Gear
As previously reported, AEW Full Gear was believed to be sold out with an estimated 12,000 to 13,000 fans in attendance. Tony Khan later said there were over 13,000 people there and the show had “well over” 100,000 PPV buys. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has more details on the business metrics of the event, including estimated PPV buys and more.
Streaming PPV is up about 15% or more from WrestleDream (which did a little over 110,000 buys total), possibly over 20%. Overall numbers look to be up 33.3% from WrestleDream and down 17.1% from Forbidden Door. When late buys come in, which is typically strong for AEW, the show will likely end up with 122,000 to 140,000 buys. It was noted the picture will be clearer next week when more data is available after the holiday. Of those who bought Full Gear, 46.8% also bought WrestleDream.
The attendance was over 13,000 fans with 12,000 paid. The live gate was $900,000. The audience included many WBD executives, Hollywood people and possible sponsors. While it was announced as sold out, it was actually “just shy” of hitting that achievement. Either way, it’s AEW’s biggest US crowd of the year and third-biggest behind All In and Forbidden Door. It’s also the largest crowd for Full Gear ever.
Theater showings were up 8% from WrestleDream (which was in 200 theaters while this was in 120). The screen per average gross was up 80%. The show did not rank in the top 20 Google search trends for that night.
