Why I Love/Hate Wrestling 10.14.07: Bound for Glory (Part 1)

October 14, 2007 | Posted by Jordan Linkous

Welcome to my two part feature of TNA’s Bound for Glory. Much like last week, I will give my opinions of the matches beforehand. But, unlike No Mercy, I will hopefully be seeing this match so I will be able to deliver a look at it after all is said and done. But for now one thing is certain, and that is that I have a lot of opinions going into Bound for Glory!

Why I Love Wrestling

MONSTER’S BALL: Black Reign vs. Raven vs. Abyss vs. Rhino
As much as I completely hate Black Reign, there is no way I can put this match on my hate list. This is possibly my favorite gimmick match TNA has produced outside of the Ultimate X match, and I believe this match may be a pretty decent brawl. Don’t believe me? Lemme set it straight. THIS IS Abyss’s match. He has been in every one and has delivered every time. He is a big power wrestler and can take loads of pain. He has fallen on tacks several times, including face first, has been battered by anything opponents can find under the ring, and has been ripped apart by barbed wire. This is the perfect match for Abyss and look for him to take the win. Rhino has been a solid performer in TNA and has put on some awesome matches, some including Abyss himself. He is an intense brawler and has a win in a previous match. Raven has demonstrated that he can wrestle when motivated, and hardcore brawling is his specialty. He has experience in this match and has taken it to the limit before, so expect this match to be no exception. And we finally come to Black Reign. I detest him. I hope this match is the last one where I will have to see his fat ass but I doubt that. Luckily he is in a match where you don’t have to be the best wrestler to make the match good and he is in the ring with enough hardcore capable wrestlers that this match should turn out okay. All in all, I am looking forward to seeing how violent this brawl will be.
Winner: Abyss via Black Hole Slam onto the glass

TABLES MATCH Rick and Scott Steiner vs. Team 3D
While these wrestlers are all past their prime, I don’t think there is much else wrong with this match. In all actuality, I am looking forward to this match. I don’t like 3-D but they seem rejuvenated as of late as does Rick. Scott like always brings the awesome. This match has several things going for it. The first is the fact that it is 3-D’s match. They have proven time and time again why their name is synonymous with tables and this match should be no exception. This rivalry as a whole has been entertaining and I am happy that this feud finally happened, albeit several years too late. And any flaws by either team can hopefully be covered by the fact that this is a tables match. This should be a decent brawl and I think The Steiners will pull of the upset in 3-D’s own specialty.
Winner: The Steiner’s via Super Bulldog

ULTIMATE X LAX (Homicide y Hernandez) vs. XXX (Elix Skipper and Senshi)
Why are we having this match? Actually, the better question is who cares why we are having this match? It will flat out kick ass no matter what the lack of rivalry may be. This has two of the best teams in TNA history duking it out in on of TNA greatest concepts. Face it, all of these guys are tremendous wrestlers and willing to take risks, so this match has every right to be awesome. LAX had been THE team in TNA, but while their popularity may have fallen, this could be just the thing to get them back on track. XXX has been hot since they reformed and Senshi is a brutal warrior. My gut feeling tells me to pick LAX, but look for Elix Skipper to do something ridiculously insane. Even though this match really has no point being here due to the lack of a feud, I could care less.
Winner: XXX via Elix Skipper’s shear insanity

THERE MUST BE A WINNER: Christian Cage vs. Samoa Joe
I don’t see any reason for this match not to be good. All previous encounters have been great and this match has a lot going into it. Cage has always come out on top and Joe hasn’t forgotten that. Cage hasn’t been pinned or made to tap out in a singles match, much like Samoa Joe was. Joe has a new fire lit under his ass and seems quite motivated. He was given the win in the opening show, including making the pin. The only thing that I don’t like about this is Matt Morgan. Sure he may be talented and he may have a potentially great feud with Joe coming up, but that doesn’t mean he should take away from this match. Unfortunately I feel he may have a role in the outcome of the match, which disappoints me. Other than the Morgan-ference, this match has the potential to deliver once again. Don’t have too high of hopes thanks to the Morgan factor, but we all could be pleasantly surprised and they could have this match go down cleanly and have Joe finally exact his revenge.
Winner: Samoa Joe via Muscle Buster/Coquina Clutch combo

KNOCKOUTS GAULTLET TO CROWN THE FIRST CHAMPION
What to say about this match. TNA finally did something right and went out to find some of the top female talent from the indy scene. If they book this right they could have some awesome women’s wrestling. While I may be too optimistic about this, as I was about the No Mercy women’s match (and we all knew how that went), this match could be good. This seems to be centered around a Gail Kim/Amazing Kong rivalry, I see the match coming down to these two. While I would have liked to see a singles match between the two, I understand where TNA is coming from. All I can say is hopefully they give some of the new girls some real exposure. But it will be down to Kim and Kong, and I see the beast coming out on top.
Winner: Amazing Kong via eliminating everyone in her path

TNA X-DIVISION MATCH Black Machismo © vs. Christopher Daniels
This match will deliver. But there is a big if involved. If TNA lets them have enough time, this match will be awesome. If they keep the stupid booking out (and I have a feeling they will, excluding a possible XXX-ference) this match will be great. Machismo proved himself by beating Kurt Angle cleanly. Unfortunately he has been victim of some bad booking as of late, but I don’t expect that to factor into the match too much. Daniels is always awesome and will always be awesome, and he is wrestling a guy who can put up. I don’t know how this match will go down, but hopefully it is given time.
Winner: Black Machismo via……roll-up

TNA WORLD TITLE MATCH Kurt Angle © vs. Sting
I don’t know how I am supposed to feel about this match. Had it not been given away on free TV a couple of months ago, I would be a lot more excited. That glaring mistake aside, this match should be fine. Kurt Angle has been wrestling well as of late as has Sting. I don’t know much else to say about it except that I hope that this match isn’t weighed down by ridiculous booking.
Winner: Kurt Angle via Ankle Lock

Why I Hate Wrestling

FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT BATTLE ROYAL
Sure I may not have seen the first Reverse Battle Royal, but I have heard enough to make a judgment. The match will be bogged down by stupid booking and the match will be won by another WWE-reject.
Winner: Fatu via however the hell you win this match

TNA TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH Team Pacman © vs. AJ Styles and Tomko
Screw this match, I’m going home.
Winner: AJ Styles/Tomko via my pleading with the wrestling god (not JBL)

Well, aside from two extremely horrible and excruciatingly stupid matches, this PPV looks to be one of the best TNA has put out. While it won’t likely be able to compare to anything that ROH will be putting out this year, it may be one of the better put on by the big two. I will see you guys at the Payload and then at my review of the show next week to see how my predictions panned out, both results-wise and good/bad-wise. By the way I got four of the revealed matches correct last week, and the other one ended in a no contest. All the other matches weren’t on the card previously, so I can’t be at fault for missing those. Until next time, stay classy, 411Mania readers.
