Why I Love/Hate Wrestling 11.11.07: Genesis 2007 (Part 1)

November 11, 2007 | Posted by Jordan Linkous

As is becoming a habit of mine, I am going to focus on a PPV with an early preview followed by a review of the card next week (hopefully). Let’s go!

Why I Love Wrestling

Team 3D (Brother Ray & Devon) vs. The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin)
Oh Lordy you know I will boycott if MCMG losses. I will wage war on TNA and be relentless and ruthless. But alas, this match may be good. I have no faith in 3-D whatsoever, but since the greatest tag team ever is involved, there is no way I could file this under “hate.” MCMG has been on fire recently, and Shelley has been gold on the mic. The two of them are capable of MOTY quality matches (and they already had one with the Briscos). And while 3-D is no Briscos, they seem to have a little more motivation as of late. Now I am not saying this will be match of the night, but if 3-D does their part and MCMG brings the awesome, then, well, I will be alright. MCMG has a bright future ahead of them if booked properly, and I think destroying 3-D is just what the doctor ordered. But if they lose………
Winners: MCMG via Enziguiri/Superkick Combo

Fight for the Right Tournament Final – Ladder Match: Kaz vs. Christian Cage
If I were a betting man I would put all my money on this for match of the night. Sure, there may not be too much story behind it, but what there is is tons of talent. The Instant Classic Christian Cage is a master in the ring and on the mic, and this match caters to his specialty. Anyone who watches wrestling knows that Christian Cage has been apart of some of THE MOST HISTORIC ladder matches ever with his friend EDGE, waging war on the likes of the Hardyz and 3-D. Christian is pure talent and, although he has found fame previously in other promotions, is really doing good for TNA. He puts on tons of good matches, and although he almost always wins, has done more good than harm. So now we move on to Kaz. I first saw Kaz on my Best of the X-Division Matches Vol. 1 when he competed in a 20 Man Battle Royal. I immediately started to like him and his wrestling style. Kaz has the potential to be the breakout star of TNA this year as he has been rolling. He had a tremendous showing in the X-Division Ultimate X match at Hard Justice, beat his former mentor, Raven, and has been coming to be his own man in feuds against guys like Robert Roode and Christian. This match will be all kinds of awesome and I can actually see Kaz winning, just to freshen up the title scene.
Winner: Kaz via Flux Capacitor off the ladder

TNA X-Division Title Match: Black Machismo © vs. Sonjay Dutt
I am having mixed feelings about this match. The X-Division always seems to be the last thing on TNA’s mind as the matches get thrown together last minute. On the other hand, the matches always deliver and there is tons of talent in the X-Division. This match should be no exception. Lethal has been bringing the awesome as of late and Dutt has always been a wrestler that I liked. They work well together and this match should be a fun, fast paced matchup. I still think the Machismo/Daniels feud has more left in the tank, so Machismo will most likely retain. I do have one thing that bugs, though. If this is just a place holder for Machismo/Daniels, then why put Dutt in here? Most people won’t buy Dutt for a second and the near falls won’t matter at all. You could have just as well put Senshi or Skipper and it would have worked out fine. So, except for the logic being a little off, this match should deliver and bring the usual X-Division awesomeness.
Winner: Machismo via Lethal Combo

TNA Women’s Title Match: Gail Kim © vs. Roxxi Laveaux vs. ODB vs. Angel Williams
This should be a damn fine women’s match. Speaking of Damn fine, how hawt are Angel and Gail? As Ron Simmons would say, “DAMN!” But all hotness aside, there is a lot of talent in this ring and the match should be really good. The last Impact featured all of the women getting digs in on the other, including Gail Kim hitting a sick missile dropkick and Angel Williams dropping Roxxi with a Powerbomb. This match, like I said before, will be awesome. The girls can all wrestle, at least that is what I hear, and this should be great. The only qualm I have is the fact that Kong is missing. There will probably be a run near the end of the match with Kong destroying everyone, so it will pretty much work out.
Winner: Gail Kim via Air Raid Siren

TNA World Tag Team Titles Match: AJ Styles & Tyson Tomko © vs. The Steiner Brothers
I don’t know much to say about this match. Both teams work really well together and I think this match will be good. The Steiners have been awesome and they are coming off of a hot win against 3-D in a tables match. Styles and Tomko defeated TEAM PACMAN to win the titles and have successfully defended against LAX. If everyone works hard and works well together, I think this match will be a decent match with Scott Steiner and AJ Styles leading the way. I cant see the Steiners winning, though, and AJ and Tomko deserve this win.
Winners: AJ Styles and Tomko via Big Boot/Splash combo

Why I Hate Wrestling

Samoa Joe vs. Robert Roode w/Miss Brooks
I honestly don’t know what to make of this match. On one hand, you have two highly capable performers who will probably wrestle their hearts out. They both have charisma, the look, and the skills to make it. But that is the thing. Both of them need this win. Roode has had an up and down career but has claimed victories over the likes of Jeff Jarrett and others. They are trying to build him up, but Samoa Joe is not the guy to do it with. Joe has been battling as well. He finally beat Christian Cage in Cage’s first singles loss. But now he has moved way down to fight Roode. The thing is both men need this win, and the losses will come of looking really weak. And, unless there are tons of shenanigans, Samoa Joe will go over. The only logic I see for this match being on the card is for it to be a placeholder and for Samoa Joe to be Sting’s partner. But that is really really unlikely.
Winner: Samoa Joe via Muscle Buster /Coquina Clutch Combo

Shop Of Horrors Match: Abyss vs. Black Reign
Black Reign is like raining on TNA. He is a turd. He is overweight, cant wrestle, and just drags down any match. This match is essentially Monster’s Ball again, but with two people missing. The Monster’s Ball match was passable thanks to the rest of the guys, aside from Reign. So with two of the guys that helped make Monster’s Ball IV good, this match will plain out suck. It is sad because Abyss is so talented and looked prime for a title shot after his domination at BFG. But alas, he has fallen even more and is now stuck in a ridiculous gimmick match with an opponent who also has a ridiculous gimmick. The only way this match will meet my standards is if Abyss totally buries Reign and destroys him with everything except for the kitchen sink. Well, maybe they should use the kitchen sink, too. That looks like it would hurt. A lot. And that is good. But if Reign wins I will be greatly upset.
Winner: Abyss via Black Hole Slam

TNA World Heavyweight Championship Match: Winner of the fall wins the Championship: Kurt Angle © & Kevin Nash vs. Sting & THE MYSTERY MAN~!
From my column a couple weeks ago:

At Bound for Glory, Sting and Kurt Angle put on a good match against one another that only had a little bit of shenanigans. They had a rematch on Impact this past week that was filled with tons more wacky shenanigans, but, as always, that is to be expected with the given booking team. But that isn’t even the worst part. Mere weeks after Sting regained the TNA Championship, he lost it back to Angle. I understand the concept of a transitional champion, but he didn’t even pass it on to someone else! What is the point? It was unnecessary and pointless, and accomplished literally nothing. Honestly, what the hell? Do Vince Russo and the rest of the booking team have their heads so far up their asses they can’t realize how stupid this makes Sting, and the company as a whole, look? So now we had to Genesis, where it will be Nash and Angle vs. Sting and a mystery partner, and the winner of the fall gets the title. This concept keeps popping up in TNA, most recently in the Match of Champions, The Lockdown Main Event, and the Buckets of Blood Doomsday Extravaganza Match. Why do they continually make tag matches number one contender or title matches? There is just no logic there. Why in the hell would you make it a tag match? Just make it a Fatal Fourway or a Battle Royal. But no, they have to make it so incredibly stupid that the concept has now become synonymous with TNA. And then we come to mystery partner. Who will it be this time? Booker T? Rob Van Dam? Ric Flair? History shows that mystery partners tend to be rejects from other promotions and I think this is no exception. It will probably wind up being either Jeff Jarrett, PACMAN JONES (knowing how stupid TNA is), or one of the various past their prime superstars on TNA’s roster. Of course, there is a chance that it will be Samoa Joe, which is the only person that could really make the match good. And I just realized this, but what the hell is Kevin Nash doing in the title match, let alone wrestling in general? They should have just kept him doing promos and skits and kept him away from the six sided ring as a whole, but now he is in the main event!

So, if you couldn’t tell by reading the passage above, I absolutely, one hundred and ten percent, hate this match. And if we had to go this rout, I say omit Nash and Mystery Partner and keep it a singles match. But no, we get this BS. It could be good if Nash was kept to a bare minimum and the Mystery Partner turned out to be someone worthy, but rumor has it its going to be none other than Booker T. Screw this, I’m going home.
Winner: Kurt Angle via mystery partner turning on Sting

Where is All the Talent?
Here is my biggest beef about the show; there are to many people who don’t deserve to be wrestling, such as Nash, 3-D, Reign, and others. However, several of the most talented wrestlers in TNA are nowhere to be found! Here is your evidence:

Chris Harris
Homicide
Hernandez
Elix Skipper
Senshi
Christopher Daniels
James Storm
Amazing Kong

So we have at least eight talented performers who aren’t even on the card. They may be put in last minute, but I have a feeling the last minute matches will probably include washed up people like VKM, Raven, and others. And the weird thing is that LAX, XXX and Kong have all been featured on impact and had awesome matches at BFG, but now they aren’t even on the show! Nice going.

We definitely have a mixed bag of matches coming up. On one had you have matches like Kaz vs. Christian, the Knockouts match, and the X-Division matches all breathing some fresh air into the PPV. On the other hand you have crap like The Little Shop of Horrors match and the main event. I think this PPV has potential to be really good, but then again, most shows do. Anyway, be sure to check out the other great columns on the website and enjoy. Stay classy, 411Mania readers.
