While initial reports claimed that Austin Theory portrayed the masked attacker at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames, the final on-screen reveal may not confirm him as the culprit. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE’s creative direction may shift since the event, leaving the storyline open for another identity to be revealed later.

According to Dave Meltzer, Paul Heyman initially pushed for Theory to join The Vision as someone to take pins instead of Bron Breakker or Bronson Reed. Theory was reportedly penciled in for the heel WarGames team until Jacob Fatu’s injury altered several creative plans.

He noted that the injury required WWE to accelerate the Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre feud by one month. Both men entered the WarGames match sooner than expected, replacing their originally planned showdown for a later event. With Rhodes and McIntyre now involved, WWE determined that McIntyre fit the fifth heel slot more than Theory. As a result, Theory would have appeared only as the masked attacker rather than as an announced WarGames team member.

It was previously reported that Theory was the masked man at Survivor Series. However, the Observer has noted that WWE can still change the storyline explanation before the unmasking occurs on television. Chris Jericho was specifically mentioned as a possible reveal if creative plans were dragged until January. If that happens, Meltzer claimed it “would immediately get him into a top position.”
