WWE Rumored to Have Talked About Using Tropicana Field as New Programming Venue
ThunderDome
– As previously reported, WWE has until December 5 to clear out of Orlando’s Amway Center and find a new venue for their Raw and SmackDown programming. Dave Meltzer shared some more details on the situation on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio.
While it’s still not clear where WWE will go next, Meltzer noted that the company has to move out of the Amway Center about two weeks after November 24, so the Amway can prep for the Orlando Magic’s new season. Meltzer added that one location that was talked about by WWE was Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. Tropicana Field is a baseball stadium and home to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Meltzer noted that while he doesn’t see how WWE could run in a baseball stadium multiple times a week, it would be good for WWE to stay in central Florida, which is closer to the Performance Center, and where many of the roster members already live. It’s also cheaper for WWE to run in Florida, and the company would likely be less in fear of a shutdown by the governor due to the pandemic.
While WWE’s next venue to house the ThunderDome is still not confirmed, they are said to be looking at venues in Florida, Texas, and Illinois.
