WWE’s Planned UK Series Titled King Of The Ring, To Be Pitched to UK Broadcasters
– WWE has a working title for their UK series, King of the Ring. The series is to be pitched to UK broadcasters according to PWInsider. The plan is to have a WWE property that is UK-centric, produced within Great Britain and featuring an all-British cast.
Among the broadcasters being pitched to is ITV. ITV has been developing a World of Sport series, with a pilot airing last year but the planned tapings being pushed out. The most recent report suggested that the delay was due to Impact and ITV failing to come to a business agreement about the series. It is still not known exactly why the agreement fell apart; some talent plan Jeff Jarrett and Anthem Media for pushing for an ongoing series, while the network wanted a ten-episode series that fits with the UK’s shorter TV seasons.
The network’s original plans to move ahead led to WWE pushing their own plans for a UK brand forward, specifically their UK Championship tournament in January and the signing of new UK talents.
King of the Ring is, of course, a reference to the long-time WWE tournament PPV that ran from 1993 through 2006, then came back in a couple of random instances as atractions. At this time, it isn’t known how or when the series would launch.
