wXw Cancels 2021 Catch Grand Prix; Replaces With Blitzturnier Event

wXw has announced that their upcoming Catch Grand Prix festival, scheduled for September 23-26 in Oberhausen has been cancelled.

Citing over-running redevelopment works at the Turbinenhalle, and a lack of a suitable venue that was available for the whole four-day period, wXw has opted to cancel the festival, and replace it with two new events.

Friday September 24, 2021 sees wXw host Inner Circle 10 at their wXw Wrestling Academy in Essen – this will be a show held at half-capacity, in line with local coronavirus regulations (therefore an attendance of 65). The last time wXw ran at their academy in front of fans was the Inner Circle 9 that preceded 16 Carat Gold in 2020, which featured Daisuke Ikeda & Yuki Ishikawa vs. Chris Ridgeway & Daniel Makabe in a cracker of a main event.

Saturday September 25 will see wXw hold a one-off “Blitzturnier” at the Congress Centrum Oberhausen – the site of their most recent 20th Anniversary show. The show will be a one night, twelve-person tournament featuring the previously-announced Catch Grand Prix contestants, with each match having separate stipulations, culminating in a Catch Grand Prix-style final.

In addition, the September 25 card will see the previously-scheduled wXw Unified World Wrestling Championship being defended as Marius al-Ani puts his title on the line against the winner of 2020’s 16 Carat Gold Cara Noir.

Any tickets purchased for the Catch Grand Prix will be refunded – since the show isn’t being rescheduled. These cannot be transferred to the new September 24/25 shows, tickets for which go on sale this Thursday September 2nd, at 5pm CEST / 4pm BST.
