UPDATED: Frenchy Martin Passes Away – WWE Comments
UPDATED: WWE released the following statement on Martin’s death…
WWE is saddened to learn that Jean Gagné, known to WWE fans as Frenchy Martin, has passed away.
Though he began his WWE career as a competitor, Martin is best remembered for his time as the manager of the mighty Dino Bravo. Donning a brash monocle and a sequined beret, Martin helped his fellow French Canadian find success in 1987, while enraging American fans by carrying around a sign that read “USA Is Not OK.” Martin’s ringside antics made him a memorable face of WWE in the late ’80s despite a relatively brief run.
WWE extends its condolences to Gagné’s family, friends and fans.
ORIGINAL: According to Pwinsider.com, former WWF wrestler and manager Jean “Frenchy Martin” Gagne passed away this morning. Martin entered into hospice care several weeks ago as he was battling cancer. He was 66 at the time of his passing. Prior to working with the WWF in the 80s, Martin had long runs in Stampede Wrestling and in Puerto Rico. When he arrived in WWE, he wrestled, did commentary, hosted an interview segment for international broadcasts and also managed the late Dino Bravo.
On behalf of 411, I would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Frenchy Martin.
