The Russo Brothers are in talks to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and direct the next two Avengers films. THR reports that Joe and Anthony Russo are in early talks to return to Marvel Studios for the first time since Avengers: Endgame. The talks involve the two returning the Avengers series to direct the fifth and sixth films.
The fifth film war originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty but is being retooled after Marvel cut ties with Jonathan Majors, who was playing Kang, due to his conviction for domestic assault and harassment. Destin Daniel Cretton was attached to direct that film but exited a month after Majors was cut loose. It is currently set for a May 1st, 2026 release. The sixth film is Avengers: Secret Wars and is set for a May 7th, 2007 release.
Since stepping away from the MCU, the Russos have been busy as producers. They’ve had hits on that end, including producing the Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once and Extraction for Netflix. On the directing front they have had less success, with their Apple Original film Cherry and Netflix’s The Gray Man failing to make particular marks.
Marvel has been on a months-long search for a director for the films, with multiple names including Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy in the mix.
