As previously reported, WWE is said to be looking to reconstruct its tag team division with its tag roster being significantly depleted following several tag teams being released, including former WWE champs The New Day, Motor City Machine Guns, and Wyatt Sicks. In the latest Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp answered a fan question about how WWE could release multiple tag teams when they are now trying to rebuild their tag team division.

Sapp noted that while it was an issue of money with New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods), who turned down a pay cut from WWE, that was not the case with the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin). Sabin and Shelley were reportedly making the lower end of main roster WWE contracts. It’s been noted before that the lowest main roster WWE contracts were in the range of $350,000 a year.

With regards to WWE rebuilding the tag division, Sapp noted that WWE “bringing in new but familiar teams” will serve as a more “cost-effective” strategy than trying to keep New Day, who were reportedly being paid millions of dollars per year for each wrestler. One of the teams WWE is rumored to be interested in bringing back is Enzo Amore and Big Cass.

The New Day and the Motor City Machine Guns will have to finish their 90-day notice of termination periods before they become unrestricted free agents.
