Note On Secrecy Around Sami Zayn’s Undisputed WWE Title Win

WWE kept the details of Sami Zayn winning the Undisputed WWE Championship limited to very few people, according to a new report. Zayn defeated Cody Rhodes and Gunther at WWE Night of Champions on Saturday to mark his first-ever world title victory in WWE. The title win came as a surprise to many fans and according to Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, many within the company were surprised as well.

The report cites source within WWE as saying that many, including those in the marketing department, were caught “off guard” by the title change. One source said that the win was shared on a very strict “need to know” basis. As of July 1st, the marketing department has yet to receive any instructions regarding changing key art for SummerSlam to reflect Zayn as champion.

One employee said that the matter was “worrisome,” citing that the lack of advance notice for such a big creative change could make their jobs harder if that becomes a normal occurence.

Sami Zayn does not currently have a match set for WWE SummerSlam, which takes place on August 1st and 2nd from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
