SDCC: First Creature Commandos Teaser Kicks Off DC Universe in Animated Form
James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe launches with the animated Creature Commandos series, and the first teaser was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con. Max released the trailer for the animated series on Friday following its debut during the Jim Lee & Friends panel at the pop culture convention. You can check it out below.
The trailer gives us our first look at the team, which is being overseen by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) leads the team in the wake of Task Force X (aka the Suicide Squad) being disbanded. When questioned about that matter, Waller says that she’s not allowed to force humans to work for her, but that “these aren’t humans.” We get to see the team — Frankenstein (David Harbour), the Bride (Indira Varma), GI Robot & Weasel (Sean Gunn), Nina Mazursky (Zoe Chao), and Dr. Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk) as they go on missions for Waller and Flag.
The series arrives in December on Max and also features the voices of Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe. It is written and executive produced by James Gunn, and will be the first canon entry into the new DC Universe that spans across film, television and animation. It’s already been confirmed that Grillo will reprise his role as Flag in Peacemaker season two. The series is described as follows:
Creature Commandos tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails…they’re your last, worst option.
