Toho Reveals Title & Teaser Trailer for Godzilla Minus One, Set for Wide Release in December
The King of the Monster returns to theaters in a new live-action feature from Toho later this year. Toho revealed the official title and teaser trailer for the next live-action Godzilla film, Godzilla Minus One.
First announced in November, the film will debut in theaters in Japan on November 3 following by a US nationwide theatrical release on December 1. The new film depicts a devastated postwar Japan facing a new threat in the form of the monstrous Godzilla.
This will mark the first domestic Japanese Godzilla film since Shin Godzilla, released in 2016 and co-directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. The new feature is written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki (Lupin III: The First, Stand By Me Doraemon).
The legendary monster of cinema made his theatrical debut sixty-nine years ago on November 3, 1954 with the release of Gojira in Japan. There has since been over 35 films starring the giant mutated kaiju, creating a multi-billion dollar franchise and global fandom that has only grown in size over the last several decades. Following his creation in Japan, the iconic cinematic monster has become a household name across the globe and featured in standalone books, comics, television shows, countless consumer products, and more.
Meanwhile, the next installment of the Legendary MonsterVerse series, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, hits theaters on March 15 2024. The sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong will see the titular monsters team up against a new threat.
