411’s NWA: TNA Impact Report 10.15.04

October 15, 2004 | Posted by Larry Csonka

Welcome to The Best Damn TNA Recap: Ver. 2 for 411wrestling.com. Time for TNA’s IMPACT! I say IMPACT like that because, well, it’s my job! I am you party host, your Master of Ceremonies, The Charismatic Enigma, The Next Big Thing, Double M’s favorite writer (you know it’s true!), The Chosen One, The Choice of a New Generation, the Man of a Million Columns and the truly Phenomenal Larry “the Boss” Csonka, and I am here to do my thing.

Remember, I don’t do star ratings, not my thing. My play by play is straight up, unless something just screams to be commented on in a sarcastic way, which I love to do. I have a good time, I mark out and yes I really enjoy TNA as well as the WWE and all wrestling. So sit back and relax and enjoy The Best Damn TNA Recap: Ver. 2!

This week we continue the build to Victory Road as we have the finals of the Mini-tournament to crown a #1 Contender to face Jeff Jarrett for the NWA Title.

Highlights of last week are shown.

Tenay and West welcome us to the Impact Zone in Orlando Fl.

Match #1 Jeff Hardy vs. “The Alpha Male” Monty Brown – Finals to determine who faces Jeff Jarrett for the NWA title at Victory Road

They slap each other a bit them as let’s go Monty chants start. Lock up, and then a break even before they really lock up. Knee to the gut by Brown followed by clubbing forearms. Snap mare, then a nice neck vice/arm bar combo by Brown. Rolls Hardy over and gets a quick 2. Hardy fights back and gets some chants. Stiff right shots by Brown, and now shots to the ribs. Abyss is shown watching on as is Raven. Monty in control as we head to commercial @ 2:30.

Back @ 5:00 as Hardy and Brown battle it out on the floor. Back in the ring, and Brown gets a sleeper hold. Hardy tries to escape, but Brown grabs his hair and pulls him back. Hardy with a chin crusher, and a boot to the gut. Off the ropes and a lariat by Hardy then the mule kick. Basement drop kick in the corner to Brown, and Hardy is in control. Sleeper by Hardy now, but Brown gets a back suplex and another. Tries for a 3rd and Hardy flips out and gets the twist of fate for 2! Low blow by Brown, he goes to punch Hardy and hits the ref. STO by Hardy, and he goes up top…SWANTON by Hardy but the ref is out. Abyss is out! BLACK HOL SLAM TO HARDY! He and Brown face off…POOOOOOOOOUNCE TO ABYSS! Brown back on the attack, he looks to get the Alpha Bomb, but Raven is in the ring and WAFFLES Brown with a chair! EVEN FLOW to Brown! Twist of Fate by Hardy and that is all @ 9:12.

Ok, considering Hardy’s limitations the match was laid out pretty good. Monty was made to look strong, fighting off Abyss, then Hardy and only falling to Raven’s chair, Even flow and Hardy’s twist of fate. Having Abyss and Raven interfere made sense, probably set up another match at Victory Road and was a hot finish. BUT I just don’t see why they put Hardy over Monty AGAIN! They had a good build with Monty, a fresh face and match for the PPV. Monty is the kind of guy people can get behind, but TNA decided to go with the Black Hole of Charisma instead.

Shane Douglas with Dusty Rhodes. Dusty says Hardy will let us know about upping the ante. Russo is out, and Dusty runs down the Championship committee. Russo says he runs the show, not Dusty. Dusty calls Zbyzko is a stooge, and he knows they are there to get rid of him. Dusty says the people should vote on who runs TNA, him or Russo. Russo says Dusty can’t run the company better than him, and Nov. 7th, they will let the people vote. Dusty says he approved this message.

Commercial time.

We are back with a promo for the 20-man X-Division Gauntlet with Kazarian, Shane, Sabin, Alex Shelley and Jerrelle Clark. Added this week is Shark Boy, Chad Collyer, The Amazing Red and Sonjay Dutt.

Match #2 Non-Title – Jason Pocaro vs. Petey Williams © w/Coach Scott D’Amore

Petey tries to attack Pocaro from behind, but Pocaro side steps him and gets a clothesline, then another followed by a drop kick. Pocaro with forearm shots, flips Petey to the apron, tries to sunset flip over, but Petey holds on, then gets a leg drop. D’Amore slams Pocaro down, and then tosses him back in the ring. Petey sets up for the Destroyer, but D’Amore stops him…Petey had Pocaro up…STYLES CLASH and that is all @ 1:18

Petey celebrates, then D’Amore covers him from the camera, and he has AJ’s ring jacket on and poses! AJ is out and clotheslines Petey out of his shoes and sends him to the floor. Running plancha by AJ to D’Amore and Petey! He tosses Petey backing the ring, takes his jacket back and Petey escapes to the floor and up the ramp and they stare down.

I love the one ups-manship here, as it builds great heat. The match at Victory Road definitely can be a show stealer and I for one can’t wait.

Commercial time.

We are back with an NYC video package.

Match #3 The 3LK (Konnan, James and Killings) vs. Eric Stevens, Nate “Spyder” Webb and John Thedeo

Konnan and James hit it old school with the mic work, they want a tag title shot, and the JOB Squad attacks to start the match. All 6 brawl to start, but the 3LK gain the advantage. Rolling Thunder to Webb, Alabama Slam to Stevens. Nizzie leg drop to Thedeo. James and Konnan hold him up high, and Killings gets a leg lariat and that is all @ 0:54.

Thedeo won’t be working for TNA anytime soon. He almost kicked out of the pin at the end, and got some dirty looks from the 3LK. Garden variety squash, nothing to see here.

Shane Douglas with Jeff Jarrett. Douglas wants to know about the stakes. JJ says Hardy can’t do anything but get painted up and have a clown contest. HA! So very true. He says they could stand under a black light and let their teeth glow, that would be exciting. He doesn’t care what hardy is into, because JJ is into being the best, the NWA champion. He says not even a super freak can beat him. Douglas wants to know who the “Outsiders” are, Hogan, Austin, Sting? JJ says the Outsiders are Hall and Nash. Hall is on his side, and the bad news for Nash is that he is with Hardy. He says the bigger they are, the farther they fall…TNA is his world, welcome to Planet Jarrett. Consider that your Global Warning. He tells Douglas to find the freak.

Commercial time.

We are back with 6-Points of Impact with Jeff Hammond

– Victory Road will be TNA’s new beginning.
– The Outsiders will be there.
– Piper will have In The Pit, who will be his guest?
– Petey vs. AJ and the 20-man Gauntlet will be major highlights of the show.
– The Championship committee and how will they and Dusty impact the show?
– The NWA title will be on the line, and can JJ win again?

Brian Gamble makes his way to the ring, and Raven attacks steel chair! He then rams him into the steel steps and Gamble is out. Apparently this was to be Gamble vs. Abyss. Raven grabs a mic and hits the ring.

Raven says Brown, Abyss and Hardy are passable, but journeymen compared to him. He should be the champ, and will be. JJ should fear him, he will get inside his head, inside his veins and drink his bone marrow! Scars are souvenirs you never lose, Raven’s Rules, nowhere to hide, run or rome. Welcome to the terror dome…and Monty is out! He attacks Raven and beats him down with rights and lefts to the ribs and kidneys. Abyss is out! Monty takes them both for a while, the Raven misses Monty and Abyss eats a super kick! Raven reverses Monty off the ropes and Abyss is up…BLACKHOLE SLAM right on top of the mic! Raven and Abyss stare down, then they duke it out! Abyss tries a choke slam… Raven escapes but Abyss gets a big boot and security is out. Brown back in the ring, bleeding a bit from the back, and they keep breaking away from security as we head to a video package about Roddy Piper.

In the early days of the Pit, it was all unscripted. His first guest was Frankie Williams, who never won a match. He describes the first encounter and how Williams got pissed. He said he didn’t want to do it again, but did. People would pick straws because no one wanted to do the Pit. He says the Pit was the first reality TV.

Commercial time.

We are back and joining Tenay and West is Judge Larry Zbyzko.

Match #4 For the Tag Team Titles, 30-minute time limit – Team Canada (Eric Young and Bobby Rude) vs. James Storm and Christopher Daniels ©

Rude and Storm to start. USA chants already to piss off the Canadians. Rude on the attack with knees and clubbing blows. He stomps away at Strom and then yells at the crowd. Storm back with a drop toe hold, them a flip reversal and a leg scissors and drop kick. Daniels in to take Young to the floor and he and Storm are on the same page as we head to commercial @ 1:40.

Back @ 4:18 with Daniels in control of Young with an arm bar. D’Amore tries to come down to the ring, and Zbyzko made sure he was barred from ringside. Young goes down and holds his knee, and Daniels tries to be nice and gets leveled by Rude and the Canadian Lariat. Slam by Rude, knee drop by Young and another by rude, and the Canadians look to be in total control. Rude covers and gets 2, then chokes him out. Neck vice by Rude, and Daniels fights to get out. Rude tries to keep him down, but Daniels up and nails Rude with right hands. Daniels off the ropes, and eats a knee by Rude, who then nails Storm and Young sneaks in. Covers Daniels for 2. Front face lock by Young, Rude comes in and the ref doesn’t see the tag Daniels made. Rude back in the ring, and just beats down Daniels with boots and right hands. Suplex to Daniels, tag to Young who gets a BIG elbow drop for 2 as Storm saves Daniels. Rude chokes out Daniels, and Young charges but Daniels moves and Rude in knocked to the floor! Clothesline by Daniels and both men are down! Daniels looks around, crawls and tags Storm! Clotheslines for all…backdrop to Rude, power slam to Young. RANA to Rude gets 2 as Young makes the save. Young and Storm go at it, Russian leg sweep/clothesline combo by team Canada and the get 2 as Daniels makes the save. They double-team Daniels, but he side steps Rude, then rams him into Young. Uranage to Rude…BEST…MOONSAULT…EVER gets 2 as Young saves Rude! Storm sets up for the 8-second ride on Rude, Young shoves Daniels into them and Rude rolls up Storm for 2 as he had the ropes. Daniels goes for an STO on Young, but he gets rolled up and we have NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPS @ 10:48!

I loved that D’Amore was banned from ringside, as to give Team Canada a nice clean win. Also, Zbyzko made it really clear when Tenay said the Canadians won, he said “clean as a whistle.” I think there was an error on the final pin, as Young had Daniels hooked up so he couldn’t break up the pin but I think Rude and Storm were too close to the ropes. Other than that, damn fine main event and should lead to a tag title match as well as AMW vs. XXX II in the Cage, or so I hear.

Shane Douglas in the back with Jeff Hardy. He ups the ante, as he stands on a ladder all painted up like a freak with the black light.

I still like the 3-4 matches on the card, it just has a better flow as this and last week’s shows had a great pacing. The opener was good, although I hated the outcome personally. Petey and AJ heated up great, as well as the tension between Abyss, Monty and Raven. JJ spilled it that Hall and Nash were definitely coming in and it looks to be a ladder match at Victory Road. Overall a good show this week.
