411s NWA:TNA Xplosion Report 06.06.04

June 8, 2004 | Posted by Gregory Conley

If you’re not READY FOR TOTAL… NONSTOP… ACTION I’m turning this car around.

Clips of the TNA developments in recent weeks, which include Ron Killings winning the
TNA Heavyweight Title and the great World X Cup.

Mike Tenay and… DON WEST???? welcome us to the show.

The Naturals vs. Jason Pocaro & J-Rocc – Don West calls The Naturals “one of the fastest rising tag teams in TNA.” If there’s someone rising slower than these guys, please, tell me. Chase Stevens and Jason Pocaro start off, with both of them doing some fancy reversals. Chase shows himself to be a tad bit too cocky, earning a punch from Pocaro. Stevens catches Pocaro when he goes for a bodypress, but J-Rocc tags in, connecting with a missile dropkick. J-Rocc reverses a maneuver into a Russian legsweep. Rocc goes to attack Douglas, who quickly snaps Rocc’s throat on the top ring rope. Rocc stumbles right into a clothesline from Stevens. Tag into Andy Douglas. Douglas with that nice corner stretch move. Stiff kick to Rocc’s head. As the referee is busy with an indignant Pocaro, Stevens does the illegal switch, coming in with a dropkick for Rocc. Stevens immediately tags back out to Douglas. Really stupid and ugly sequence sees Douglas do the girliest leapfrog ever, and then both wrestlers collide. Both men make tags. Leg lariats for both men from Pocaro. Pocaro goes for a pin off of a powerslam, and when Douglas tries to break it up with an elbowdrop, Pocaro moves out of the way. Pocaro tries a headscissors, so of course, it’s Natural Disaster time! That gets The Naturals yet another win at 3:30. These two continue to get better every week.

NWA-TNA is now taking on an ECW approach to advertising the upcoming PPVs, where they use a commercial listing the matches to occur, complete with a voiceover.

Note to TNA announcer guy: Never, ever, refer to Frankie Kazarian as just “Kazarian.”

Hype for Jerry Lynn, Hector Garza, and Heavy Metal vs. Team Canada for tomorrow night.

Apparently there is a God, as The Amazing Red lost his X Title Match to the Champion, Frankie Kazarian.

Note to Don West: Never, ever, refer to Frankie Kazarian as just “Kazarian.”

TNA Cam with Frankie Kazarian, who cuts a mediocre promo promising a win.

TNA Cam with AJ Styles, who says that it was his decision to go back to the division where the Phenomenal One shines.

Elix Skipper vs. Dirk Ciglar – I remember when I used to mark for Elix. Those days are long over. Elix Skipper immediately catches Dirk as he goes for a clothesline, bringing him down with an armbreaker. Flippy reverses and such follow. Dirk gets thrown to the outside. Skipper belly-to-belly suplexes Ciglar from the apron, and into the ring. Following that, a stiff kick gets two. Powerslam from Ciglar to Skipper, who Matrixes out of a pin attempt. Ciglar clotheslines Skipper in the corner, choking him in a variety of ways while there. Back suplex from Ciglar gets two. Skipper crotches Ciglar onto the top ring rope with a backdrop in a sequence that can only be described as ugly, ugly, ugly. Skipper does that excellent rope walking of his, huricanraning Ciglar. Skipper tires the Play of the Day, but Ciglar reverses. Skipper immediately brings Ciglar down with a Judo throw, and after working on the arm for all of two seconds, Ciglar submits at 3:50. Pretty damn terrible. Skipper didn’t work the arm at all throughout the match, so the submission was completely out of his place.

TNA Cam with America’s Most Wanted. At the very least, Storm justifies getting back together by saying that Kash & Dallas pissed him off too much.

Here’s an interesting tidbit for you. Since TNA sends out their Xplosion tapes to television stations Thursday morning, all the “post-Impact” interviews are actually taped Wednesday after the the PPV.

Chris Sabin vs. Conrad Kennedy III – Conrad apparently calls himself CK3. Conrad tries to back suplex Sabin out of a headlock, but Sabin lands on his feet. Dropkick for Conrad. Sabin jumps to the apron out off of a whip, and when he brings himself in, he monkey flips Kennedy out of the corner. Nice. Single leg takedown leads to a two count. Conrad with what can best be described a cutthroat version of Abyss’ torture rack slam. Two count. Kennedy goes to a unique little submission hold, complete with kneeing Sabin in the head when he lets go of it. Kennedy gets drop toe held into the corner. Sabin springs off of Kennedy’s chest, and then immediately dropkicks him in the face. Sabin tries a back springboard into a spinning DDT, but Kennedy catches him. Waistlock slam from Kennedy is only good enough for two. Kennedy runs into a knee. Sabin blows the final spot by not getting his footing right, then he REPEATS THE SPOT, finishing Kennedy off with a tornado DDT. Cradle Shock gets Sabin the win at 4:20. Well, at least Tenay called it that, though it may be the Future Shock. Actually, they may be the same damn thing. There’s a question for Ask Mike Tenay. Besides for the blown spot, which Tenay nicely made out to be Kennedy blocking the move, this was excellent. Kennedy does great, slightly spotty moves, and he seems to know his wrestling pretty well too. And Sabin, well, Hail Sabin.

TNA Cam with the King of the Mountain and the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett provides the “I told you so” for Vince Russo.

Tomorrow night on NWA-TNA
New NWA Tag Team Champions America’s Most Wanted will defend those titles against a tag team chosen by the voters at nwatna.com.
NWA X Champion Frankie Kazarian will defend his title against AJ Styles.
In what is the first time two team captains have joined forces, Jerry Lynn, Hector Garza, and Heavy Metal will face three members of Team Canada.
Chris Sabin will take on Michael Shane in a match that may just predict who will receive the next X Title shot.
Four Corners Gut Check Match: Shark Boy vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. David Young vs. D-Ray 3000

Xplosion was a tad bit rudimentary this week, as there were no clips from Impact (which, by the way, was great), but it’s still a ringing endorsement for TNA fans to order the PPV tomorrow night, and then watch TNA Impact, Fridays at 3 PM on the Fox Sports Network.

What a shill I am.
