411’s WWE Smackdown Report 06.12.09
Welcome to 411’s Weekly Smackdown! Report. I am JP Truss your play-by-play man for Smackdown! . J.R. and Todd Grisham are at ringside.
The NEW World Champion Speaks!
Justin Roberts announces the NEW World Champion: CM Punk! The crowd is clearly divide on the new champion and Punk grabs the mic. Punk says he’ll cut right to the chase because he wants to clear up a few things. He’s heard the grumblings from the fans and in the back that say he “stole” the World Heavyweight Championship from Jeff Hardy. Punk says he doesn’t see it that way. He didn’t see it that way last year when he cashed it in on Edge and, as he points out to the fans, neither did they. Punk says he wouldn’t take it back because he is proud to stand in the ring YOUR World Heavyweight Champion for the second time! Punk says he earned the right to cash in Money in the Bank at Wrestlemania, and last Sunday was an opportunity to become World Heavyweight Champion staring him in the face and he took it. That doesn’t make CM Punk a bad guy: it’s the entire purpose of Money in the Bank.
Game. Set. Match to Mr. Punk.
Now, Punk admits it wasn’t the most popular decision but Punk has never done anything just to be popular. Punk points out that he was worked hard to obtain. The World Heavyweight Championship is the entire reason he is a WWE Superstar! Punk promises to bring honor and respect back to the championship and represent Smackdown to the best of his ability but before he can finish Jeff Hardy interrupts him.
Jeff grabs a microphone and says he’s not out here to complain, but he doesn’t think Punk earned it. Jeff tells him that even though he had the right to do what he did he did it on the wrong guy. Punk says he understands that Jeff was upset but asks Jeff to understand where he is coming from. Punk didn’t put Jeff in a Ladder Match: Jeff did. Jeff Hardy chose a Ladder Match and the minute he did Punk decided that was the night to cash it in. It didn’t matter to him who won, he was going to do it anyway. It just so happened to be Jeff Hardy. Punk tells him ‘Them’s the breaks’ but Jeff doesn’t seem to be accepting of Punk’s rationale. Jeff says the he ‘senses’ selfishness in Punk’s actions. Jeff asks him if he even cares about his fans but clearly Punk doesn’t seem to mind. Jeff demands a rematch tonight and you know it’s only going to bring out one man.
Edge arrives and says that he is the only one that deserves a rematch for the World Championship. Jeff tells Edge that he is the one who won the Ladder Match and tells him that this wasn’t about Edge. Punk agrees, telling Edge to beat it but Edge refuses to leave: reminding the both that neither of them combined haven’t held the title as many times as him. FACTS!
Edge then points out that although Jeff has originally; he still can’t figure Punk out. But finally he knows: CM Punk wants to be like Edge! Punk laughs as Edge points out that his “unique” lifestyle ‘Straight-Edge’. HELLLO?! He also cashed in Money in the Bank successfully twice; just like Edge. But he will never be Edge. The ‘Straight Edge’ thing: classic Edge moment. Edge then tells Jeff that he’s going to have to get behind him because Edge will get his rematch first because if anyone deserves one its him!
Edge: Get it? Got it? GOOD!
Jeff immediately retaliates, knocking Edge out of the ring and taking down Punk with a Twist of Fate! Swanton Bomb on the Champion! That look like it hurt Punk but Jeff is standing tall. Jeff celebrates as Theodore Long arrives on the scene, making a #1 Contenders Match between Jeff Hardy and Edge for later tonight!
Chris Jericho Will Be Respected!
As we return from the commercials Theodore R. Long has just made it back to his office where the new Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho is waiting. Jericho demands to know why he isn’t getting a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship tonight. He says this is just another sign that he is being disrespected by Long and the WWE. Jericho runs down his accolades and says by virtue of that he should be the number one contender. Jericho demands that Long makes things ‘right’ and Long books him in a match against CM Punk. Jericho seems to approve of the decision and leaves.
Dolph Ziggler vs. The Great Khali w/ Runjin Singh
Apparently Dolph Ziggler requested this rematch. Well, I guess he’s got a plan or knows some way to beat Khali. I would hope anyway.
The bell rings and Ziggler avoids Khali by sliding out of the ring. It seems to be apart of the greater plan anyway. Ziggler slides in and ducks under Khali again and starts throwing punches, none of which actually work. Khali finally stops him and shoves him into ropes, catching him with a big right on the rebound. Ziggler spirals out of the ring, clearly upset.
Ziggler gets on the apron and starts arguing with the referee on the ropes, getting in a smack to Khali which only upsets the big man. Khali tosses Ziggler back into the ring. Ziggler gets back to his feet and walks into a big right from Khali. Khali pulls him to his feet and knocks him sideways with a knife edge chop. Khali pulls Ziggler up again and goes for a clothesline but Ziggler manages to pull himself to the apron and pulls Khali’s arm hard onto the top rope. Ziggler gets back into the ring and goes after the legs of Khali, finally taking him down with a chop block. Ziggler goes for a front headlock but Khali easily gets to his feet and hauls Ziggler off. Khali whips Ziggler to the ropes and hits him with a big boot. Khali calls for the choke bomb but Ziggler rolls out of the ring to avoid it. Khali heads out of the ring after him and Ziggler takes a hostage in Runjin Singh. Ziggler uses Singh as a shield and keeps Khali moving before hurling Singh at Khali and slides back into the ring just as the referee counts to ten! Ziggler has beaten the Great Khali!
Winner:Dolph Ziggler (Victory via Countout) *3/4
Grisham and JR pimps tonight’s main event before heading to commercials.
Michelle McCool and Layla w/ Alicia Fox vs. Eve Torres and Melina
Grisham is clearly distracted and says we’re getting ready for a ‘six Diva tag match’. You wish Grish. We start this one off with Eve and Layla. They tie up and Layla takes control with a knee and take down. Layla whips Eve to the corner and charges after her but Eve blocks with an elbow. Layla tries again but Eve dives out of the way. Eve hits a dropkick and goes for a roll up but gets a quick count. Eve gets in a few shots and goes for an Irish Whip but Layla reverses it into the corner. Eve struggles as the referee checks on her before she gets free with a sitting jawbreaker. Eve kicks out Michelle’s leg and goes for the corner. Michelle tries to cut her off but she’s too late and Melina gets the tag.
Melina fights Michelle out of the corner and takes her down with a clothesline. Dos clotheslines! Melina bounces off the ropes and hits a sweet Tilt-A-Whirl into a back kick that drops McCool. Melina goes for a pin and gets the one count. The ladies continue to slug it out until McCool goes for a big boot, which Melina evades. Melina goes for her back hand bridge kick (need a better name for that) but McCool catches her and flips the champion up right. The ladies charge at each other and Melina catches her with a huge swinging takedown. Melina goes for another pin and it’s broken up by Layla. Eve comes in as Layla celebrates and knocks her out of the ring with a one-legged dropkick.
McCool takes advantage of the distraction with a European Uppercut. McCool whips Melina to the corner but Melina blocks with a knee. Melina sets up for the Screaming High Impact Sunset Flip (this also needs a better name) but gets distracted by A. Fox. McCool reverses Melina into the Styles Clash for the victory.
Winner: Michelle McCool and Layla (Pinfall via Styles Clash) *1/2
The heelish girls celebrate as Grisham and JR announce R-Truth and John Morrison will team up to face The Team Formerly Known as The World’s Greatest Tag Team NEXT!
R-Truth and John Morrison vs. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas
Well, this should be a good one. R-Truth gets a moment to make fun of Haas and Benjamin, telling them their teaming up was like Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer doing a rap song: nobody wants to hear it or see them. Eh, I’ll give it an B for effort.

Truth backs Benjamin up with hard rights, going for a charge but Benjamin counters with a Samoan Drop! Benjamin goes for the pin attempt and gets a near fall. Benjamin tags in Haas. Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho vs. World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk
Chris Jericho comes down to the ring with the mask of Rey Mysterio. Nice touch. Jericho takes the mic and says that he believes he is a honest man, a successful man, while 99.9% of the fans are liars and failures. And by unmasking Rey Mysterio he has relieved him of the burden of deceit. Rey Mysterio can walk the streets free without paranoia. But instead of thanking him Rey Mysterio has disappeared. Jericho says that Rey is ashamed now but will one day realize that he was redeemed by his savior: Chris Jericho. And now he will prove that he is better than CM Punk tonight and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Do you understand what he is saying to you right now? Number One Contenders Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Edge
Is it just me or does Jeff looks like he nearly forgot to put all of his gear on before coming out? He still looks a bit sore from Sunday and I’m sure that’ll play into this match.
