John Cena defeated Dominik Mysterio for the WWE Intercontinental Championship on this week’s Raw, and a new report notes that the match was originally set for Survivor Series. Cena defeated Dominik to win the title on Monday’s show. In doing so, he captured the last current title he hadn’t yet won.

Thursday’s Wrestling Observer Radio reports that WWE rescheduled the the match from Survivor Series to Raw. Dave Meltzer said that the title change was scheduled for the PLE, but moved to happen in Boston. He said it was likely done to give Cena the big moment in his last hometown appearance.

What this means for Survivor Series is not yet clear. Meltzer also noted that WWE has not booked Dominik and Rey Mysterio to compete at Survivor Series. Rey returned to TV on the November 3rd Raw and confronted Dominik. As of now, that match is not scheduled for the PLE.

Meltzer added that he had initially believed Cena’s title win over Dominik meant he would not be facing Dom at Survivor Series. He thought perhaps WWE would do a “dream team” of CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, Roman Reigns, and Cena for the babyface Survivor Series team. However, he definitively said that team is not happening and was told plans are “not even close” to that. He noted that the Survivor Series matches will likely be finalized on Monday, which would allow for two weeks of build before the show on November 29th.

It is still possible that Cena could face Dominik in a rematch at Survivor Series. However, he said that Cena’s last match, expected to be against Gunther, was “always” intended to be for the title.

Cena competes in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th. That show takes place at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. Survivor Series is in Petco Park in San Diego and airs live on the ESPN App.
