Backstage Update on WWE Superstars Being ‘Unhappy’ Over Shutting Down Their Twitch Accounts, Talents Speaking to Andrew Yang

– Today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed the backstage reaction to WWE Superstars forced to shut down their Twitch or third-party social accounts due to a controversial edict WWE recently enacted. As noted, multiple WWE Superstars suspended their Twitch accounts, including AJ Styles, Mia Yim (aka Reckoning in Retribution), and Cesaro.

According to Meltzer, there’s a lot of “unhappiness” backstage with talent over the new policy. He added that there are “several” people in WWE who are talking to former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang. Yang has been one of the most outspoken critics on the policy regarding Superstars using third-party platforms which were subject to the WWE ban. When details surfaced on the policy in September, Yang stated, “If I’m not the Secretary of Labor, I’m pretty confident I’ll have his or her number to talk about the ridiculous classification of WWE wrestlers as independent contractors while controlling their name and likeness for years, even for something as benign as Cameo.”

Meltzer noted that Vince McMahon’s timing with this new policy with election season in full swing was “terrible.” Additionally, Vince McMahon likely sees himself as untouchable in this matter if President Donald Trump stays in office and is re-elected. Meltzer went on to say that if Democrats win the election next month, and Andrew Yang continues to champion the cause of the wrestlers, McMahon will end up on “the wrong side of the fight.”
