As previously reported, former WWE Women’s World Champion Becky Lynch was expected to become a free agent this weekend, and that now looks to be the case. Fightful Select reports that Becky Lynch became a free agent at midnight for the first time in 11 years. “The Man” had reportedly not yet signed a new WWE contract before her previous deal expired. Lynch previously signed a new contract with WWE in 2021.

Lynch lost the world title one week ago at WWE King and Queen of the Ring to Liv Morgan. WWE was reportedly aware that Morgan planned to take some time off even before she won the title on Raw. WWE higher-ups are said to have thought it was a better approach to have Lynch win the title before losing it to Morgan later before she took her hiatus.

Additionally, WWE reportedly had no concern that Lynch would “do business” at the end of her contract. It’s also said that WWE sources have stated that Lynch been a “class” act to deal with in her communications with the company that she was taking time off.

While Lynch and WWE didn’t manage to come to a last-minute deal at the 11th hour, WWE has reportedly communicated the company’s desire to continue working with Lynch. Also, WWE and people close to Lynch aren’t expecting her to go to another company, but both parties are expecting her to still receive major offers come her way nonetheless. Sources within the industry are expecting her to get some of the largest contract offers ever for any woman in the history of wrestling.

This will be Lynch’s first time as a free agent since 2013. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported this week that her hiatus is being described as a “very extended absence.”
